How to stop videos auto-playing on Facebook

Platforms like Facebook want you to spend as much time on their website as possible, and as such have allowed users to upload and share videos which in turn means you spend more time on their site.

This is fine because sometimes the videos are informative, entertaining, or funny, but one annoying thing that Facebook has done is that they have made it so that videos play automatically whenever you scroll past them.

If you never intended to watch videos in the first place, the sudden playback of audio can be a bit shocking and annoying, but the good news is that this is a feature you can actually disable, so here’s how you need to do.

Disable auto-play videos on Facebook

Android

  1. Launch the Facebook app
  2. Tap the icon with the three horizontal lines at the top right corner of the app
  3. Scroll down and tap on Settings & privacy
  4. Tap on Settings
  5. Scroll down and tap on Preferences
  6. Tap on Media
  7. Scroll down until you see the Autoplay section
  8. Select “Never Autoplay Videos”

PC

  1. Log into your Facebook account
  2. Click on your profile picture
  3. Select Settings & privacy
  4. Click on Settings
  5. Click Videos on the menu to your left
  6. Look for “Auto-Play Videos” and click on the dropdown menu
  7. Select “Off”
