Gaming on the go has never been easier for Android users thanks to the slew of new releases that hit Google Play every month. Whether you’re a dedicated gamer looking for an AAA+ title to get your teeth into, or a casual gamer searching for a new lightweight commuting distraction, there’s something out there for everyone.

With so many games now available, however, it can be tricky to know just what to choose. That’s why we’ve put together a guide to six of the most unmissable games to get stuck into this autumn-winter, no matter what type of gamer you are.

Infinite Magicraid

Thanks to the likes of Genshin Impact, the Gacha genre remains as popular as ever and DHGAMES’ new entry into the vertical is a standout one. Also weaving in some classic RPG elements, Magicraid comprises different story missions that will see you summoning magical creatures and working with them to take down the bad guys.

As a free-to-play gaming app, it offers up plenty of freebies early on in the game, so snap up what you can while you can as the going can get a little rougher as you progress to the later stages.

The Legend of Neverland

The MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) domination of the mobile gaming medium continues thanks to GameArk Global’s The Legend of Neverland. Fusing MMORPG structure with an anime style, this is a gaming app that allows you to do it all, from exploring the gorgeous open world to following the engaging narrative.

There’s even a character creator that you can have fun utilizing – a rarity on mobile – and a storyline packed with different quests and villains to banish. While the English translations are curious in places, this nevertheless adds to the game’s charm.

ScourgeBringer

Roguelike for mobile, aka ‘roguelite’, is a great genre to get into if you’re planning to step up your mobile gameplay. ScourgeBringer revolves around a classic platformer format with plenty of roguelike elements to add variety. For example, you need to be as evasive as possible as you progress through the game to avoid enemy attacks and get the upper ground over bosses.

PID Games has delivered a high-octane experience in this app and has even thought about the details, such as matching the soundtrack to the action playing out onscreen. It is a premium game, but once you’ve purchased and downloaded, you won’t have to contest with any annoying in-app ads or push notifications.

PokerStars Casino

Take a break from the usual array of gaming apps with the mobile version of PokerStars’ renowned online casino – now available on Android in several markets. The platform itself is well-stocked with digital versions of casino classics like roulette, blackjack and poker, as well as a huge library of themed online slot games.

As a real money gaming app, this one is strictly for adult players only – check the minimum age guidelines in your country if you’re not sure. Plus, like the desktop platform, the gaming app is secure and requires two-step verification to access your account.

Yu-Gi-Oh! CROSS DUEL

If trading cards are more your thing, you’ll love the latest entry in the famed manga franchise. Thankfully, Konami has fixed the issues experienced by mobile gamers in previous versions of the game and CROSS DUEL is now a heck of a lot more fun to play.

It’s business as usual in terms of the format: collecting cards to build your deck before going into battle against your opponents. But this time around you can choose to partner up with key characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh manga and anime series. It should also be noted that this app features some of the best animations we’ve seen on mobile to date.

Night Skate

If you remember playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater back in the day, then you’ll love Night Skate. This endless runner from Odd Animal takes place when the sun goes down, giving it a nice edge over other apps in the genre.

You’ll need to perfect timing, coordination and stealth as you guide your nocturnal skater across city streets. The visuals are old-school – and that’s the way we like it – while the game itself has been thoughtfully crafted to deliver sessions that are just the right length.
