Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is getting its first update ahead of next week’s release

0

Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic next week, and you’ll be happy to know that you’ll have a software update waiting for you. Samsung has pushed the first firmware update to the Galaxy Watch 4 (via SamMobile), which seems to primarily focus on stability and bug fixes.

Here’s what the changelog states:

  • Device stability improvements, bug fixes.
  • New and / or enhanced features.
  • Further improvements to performance.
    • Version: R870XXU1BUH5/R870OXM1BUH5

So far, it’s not apparent whether this is the update that will bring better integration with Google Assistant and other Google services. After being announced, Samsung confirmed that Bixby will be the default voice assistant for the Watch 4 series, but also stated that Google Assistant support would be coming later through a software update. Here’s to hoping that even if it’s not included in this update, it arrives sooner rather than later.

The Galaxy Watch 4 series is the first line of smartwatches to be released running software based on Google and Samsung’s new joint software venture in Wear OS 3. As expected, Samsung is using a skin atop Wear OS called One UI Watch, which aims to bring some uniformity when using Samsung devices together.

If you’ve been holding off on pre-ordering the smartwatch ahead of next week’s release, you might want to jump on it now. There are a few different pre-order deals still going on, including one from Amazon that gets you both the Watch 4 and Samsung’s Fast Charge Pad DUO. This is a great combination, as the wireless charger works seamlessly with your new Galaxy Watch while providing a wireless charging pad for your smartphone.
