We typically don’t cover LG’s TV announcements at CES since they have little to do with Android, Google, or mobile devices. That really hasn’t changed this year since LG is still using its webOS operating system for its upcoming NanoCell, OLED, and QNED TVs that will be hitting store shelves in the coming months, but LG did reveal that its new TV lineup will offer support for Stadia, Google’s game streaming service.
For some reason, Stadia support will be added shortly after the retail launch of LG’s NanoCell, OLED, and QNED TVs, but once the Stadia update is available on webOS, users will be able to play games through Stadia on their new LG TVs.
What’s still not clear is if support will be limited to Google’s official Stadia controller or if users will be able to use their own compatible third-party controllers.
Google has previously announced that Stadia support will be added to Android TV devices in the first half of 2021. We could see some announcements on that front during CES this week since TCL, Hisense, Sony and other TV manufacturers are expected to unveil their new lineups as well. It could be quite embarrassing for Google if LG’s webOS comes out with Stadia support before Google’s own Android TV does.
