Samsung wants to make its own tracking accessories to counter Apple’s AirTags

0

If you have been following the tech news, you might have heard that Apple is developing its own tracking accessory called the AirTags. This is said to be similar in concept to the Tile Bluetooth tracker, but now it looks like Samsung wants in on the action as well.

This is according to a report from SamMobile who claims that Samsung is looking to develop its own tracking accessory which will apparently be known as the Galaxy Smart Tag. In a way, we should have actually seen this coming. This is because alongside the Note 20’s launch several months ago, Samsung showed off its SmartThings Find feature that can help locate other compatible Galaxy devices with greater accuracy compared to more traditional forms of tracking.

The SamMobile report now points to a new device filed with the Indonesian Telecom Certification body called the Galaxy Smart Tag that certainly seems to point in that direction. It will be interesting to see who will launch their device first. Apple has been rumored to launch the AirTags at its various events throughout the year, but it has yet to surface.

There is a good chance Samsung could beat Apple to the punch as the company is said to be launching the Galaxy S21 in January next year, so it is possible that they might unveil the device then.
