Google Play Movies could soon offer free movies, but you’ll have to deal with ads

A lot of us are stuck at home due to the coronavirus outbreak. This means that your usual forms of entertainment like going to the gym, hanging out with friends, going bar hopping, are pretty much a no-go. Even going to the movies is no longer a luxury we can take part in.

Thankfully, digital movie services have been around for a while now and if you’re looking to start catching up on all those movies you’ve missed, Google might have something that could be of interest to you: free movies.

According to an APK teardown of the Google Play Movies & TV app by the folks at XDA Developers, they have discovered strings within the app that suggests that Google could be looking to offer free movies in the near future. There is a catch though, and that is you will have to deal with ads.

As it stands, the app only allows customers to either rent or buy the TV shows or movies they want to watch, but as more people are finding themselves out of a job due to businesses temporarily shutting down, we’re sure that these customers probably have other priorities to spend their money on.

We’re not sure if this was always a feature that Google planned to do, or if it is in response to the coronavirus outbreak, but either way it is an update worth looking forward to when it is released.
