We previously heard that a successor to the Razer Phone 2 may not be coming after the company laid off 30 employees from the Razer Phone team. This was very unfortunate news as the previous two devices were flawed but definitely unique. The 120hz display refresh rate was an amazing feature that definitely should make it to more phones.
Fortunately, it seems that all hope has not been lost. DigiTimes claims that a new Razer gaming device is coming, and its name will be Razer 3. We’re surprised to hear that it won’t be following the previous naming scheme, though this could very well be a mistake.
We just hope that Razer mixes things up with a new, more modern design and a bigger selling point than a 120hz display. Though it’s a great feature, the device definitely needs to be more competitive with other gaming devices like the ASUS ROG phones and the upcoming Xiaomi Black Shark 2.
The same source claims that Razer and ASUS are both in negotiations with game company Tencent to break into the Chinese gaming market. Maybe this will give Razer an edge over other companies, bringing success in the massive Chinese market. But we’ll have to wait and see as the previous two devices launched right before winter and we have quite some time before any announcements will be made.
