Google Assistant will be coming to the Sonos One, Sonos Beam soon

This year at CES we’re looking at a lot of smart gadgets, speakers, and headphones that come integrated with a variety of digital assistants like Google Assistant and Alexa. Sonos has speakers that are already compatible with Alexa and last year the company was supposed to roll out support for Google Assistant.

Clearly they missed that target, but not to worry because it looks like the feature will finally be arriving this year. Announced on their blog, Sonos has confirmed that they are locking down a date in 2019 for the feature to begin making its way to devices like the Sonos One and the Sonos Beam.

We’re very excited to see Google Assistant come to life on Sonos, and we know our customers are too. Indeed, it’s easily one of the questions we get the most from customers, press, and even in the comments on our Instagram feed: When is Google Assistant coming to Sonos? We’re listening. Together with Google, we’ve learned a lot, and are confident the integration will be worth the wait.

A specific date has yet to be set but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for it to arrive. The good news is that if you wanted to check out the feature, it seems that Sonos is opening up spots for beta testers which you can sign up for here. Not all applicants will be accepted and there will be a screening process, and it sounds like it could require a fair amount of commitment from users as Sonos is asking for at least 14 hours of listening a week, 10 voice commands used daily, and responding to surveys within 72 hours.

Based on this it sounds like the feature is still in the somewhat early stages of development so don’t start holding your breath just yet.
