Samsung patents a smartwatch with a display on the wristband

0

While many manufacturers have seemingly given up on smartwatches, for the time being, Samsung is still pumping them out. According to a recent patent, they could be working on a very unusual smartwatch. The patent filed with the USPTO includes a display built into the wristband.

The wristband display will function similar to how the Edge panel works on the Samsung Galaxy S8. It will be a launcher for the users’ favorite apps. If that’s not weird enough for you, the patent also includes a camera with optical zoom. That means the camera will be able to protrude to zoom in.

Crazy patents like this tend to never see the light of day, but it’s always interesting to see what ideas companies are thinking about. Samsung is always thinking about how they can push the limits of displays. It shows on the Galaxy phones with curved displays, and it shows in this patent with the smartwatch.
