While we await the official release of Android 7.0 Nougat, Google has released the August Distribution percentages for other devices on the market in August. As of August 1st, Android Marshmallow has continued its climb as it has increased from 13.3% last month to 15.2% this month.
Surprisingly, Android 5.1 Lollipop has also continued to see an increase in adoption as the version now is available on 21.4% of devices. As a whole, Android Lollipop now accounts for over 35% of Android devices, which is great for making sure that devices on the market are updated and secure.
It’s important to remember that even though carriers and manufacturers hinder the distribution of Android, Google uses its Play Services to help devices stay up to date with the latest features. This is obviously Google’s way of combatting slow software rollouts from the aforementioned sources.
We are expecting see Android Nougat any day now, which should help drive the distribution numbers for Android Marshmallow up a bit, but we’ll have to wait and see what type of impact is had. If you want to bypass the carriers and be on the bleeding edge of Android, be sure to check out a Nexus device, which have recently been on sale quite a bit.
