Google accidentally references “DROID MAXX 2” in Chromecast help files

We didn’t need another internal link to make us believe that Verizon and Motorola are working on a DROID MAXX 2, but here it is anyway. Google’s help files for the Chromecast include a list of devices which are optimized for Android screen mirroring. The DROID MAXX 2 (Verizon) is listed among them.

Google lists it as “Moto X Play (Rest of World)” beside that, which is slight confirmation that the DROID MAXX 2 is simply a rebranded Moto X Play.

It’s not uncommon to see these sorts of slip-ups in company documents before announcements are made official. Taboo or not, though, it’s always nice to hear it coming from someone who is almost 100% certain to be aware of forthcoming smartphones as opposed to hearing it strictly through the rumor mill. We’re still waiting on an official announcement for Motorola and Verizon, so hopefully its appearance in help files means we’re not far off from seeing its arrival (especially since its predecessor was also launched in October).

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.
