Samsung and AT&T are gearing up to announce the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active soon. We’ve seen early renders of the device in camo-doused colors, and now @evleaks has delivered another shot of the thing in a more traditional color scheme of gray/black.
But that’s not all — the Samsung Galaxy S6’s full spec sheet is already sitting on Samsung’s own website, and it reveals everything we need to know about the device. The early takeaway is that rumors that this was going to be more like an enhanced Samsung Galaxy S5 were wrong.
This thing has all the same internals as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge we’ve reviewed, except it houses all of them in a rugged case that can take a beating. Unfortunately it does lack a fingerprint sensor, but we imagine that sacrifice was necessary for a device that can potentially find itself submerged in water for long periods of time.
Otherwise, here’s the phone you can expect to get once it’s finally made official:
- 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display
- Octa-Core Exynos 7420 chipset (2.1GHz and 1.5GHz cores)
- 32GB of UFS 2.0 storage (and we’re also hearing there will be a microSD slot, though the site doesn’t mention it)
- 16MP rear camera with 4K video recording, 5MP front camera
- Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi ac Dual-Band MIMO, GPS, NFC, Heart Rate Sensor, Infrared Blaster
- 5.65 x 2.78 x 0.27 inches , 138g
- 2,550mAh battery
- Android 5.0 Lollipop
With it appearing on Samsung’s own support site it’s only a matter of time before we see some official details. In the meantime let us know if you’ll be saving some coin to grab this one over the more stylish (yet less durable) originals.
[Update]: Someone must be in trouble. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active page is no longer available for viewing.
So much for that big battery rumor. I bet it doesn’t support SD cards either.
I thought 3000+mah battery too
Looks like that :(
I thought for sure the battery would be bigger since the S6 Active is going to be bulkier that they would put in a bigger battery. When the 3500 mAh battery rumors started, the person who initially posted that rumor must have changed the 2 to a 3 so the 2550 mAh spec became 3500 mAh.
Without the bigger battery I have ZERO interest.
disappointing. I just went from an LG G3 to a Galaxy S5 and the battery life is great on the S5.
I’m tired of these tiny batteries if they can’t optimize the os like it should be.
The OS? The everything. The GPU doesn’t need to be using 10% of your battery to render your live wallpaper.
But batteries do need to start getting larger in phones. Especially since there doesn’t seem to be any kind of breakthrough in battery technology… yet.
The battery is a big disappointment for a phone that is supposed to be destined to pros and adventurers, and if the sd slot isn’t here too it will be a bigger disapointment…
If it doesn’t boast removable memory and a bigger battery, I’ll probably go for a regular S6 and get a Lifeproof case.
Or just do the same with a LG G4 and get your removable battery and SD slot.
Only thing is the G4 is much larger in the hand
That’s what she said
(I couldn’t help it, sorry)
Please Samsung, implement a real Glove mode on this phone!
Doesnt look like a removable back ? A SD Slot would be nice too.. especially as Android M has nicer support for it!
Just looked at manual. No mention of Wireless Charging or glove mode :-(
Ugly as all hell to boot.. No thanks!
I hope that the specs posted were placeholder. Since they are identical to the S6 specs, I think we may yet see the larger battery once the official specs are released.
Since they keep putting these shitty batteries in just about every phone smaller than 5.5″, I guess one can only conclude that the general population does not value good battery life.
It’s not just the internals which are identical to the S6: according to the article the dimensions and weight are also identical. Somehow I don’t believe that is true, so suspect these specs were work in progress (i.e. copy and paste, and not fully updated). Which begs the question: what else has not been updated?
I suspect these specs are not entirely correct. There is not way this device can only weight 138 grams (the same as the regular S6) with all the extra padding.
The extra padding might weigh less than the glass and metal of the S6 (is the S6 actually metal or plastic?)
No fast charging or compatibility with Galaxy S6 Wireless Charger? I think if this is the case, I am not interested to buy this piece of crap.
