HTC confirms Lollipop for One M7, One Mini (2013) and One M8

Android 5.0 Lollipop Bugdroid

Not that we were worried that HTC’s flagship smartphones from the past two years would receive Lollipop, but the company has come out to confirm that the HTC One M7 and the HTC One M8 will both be receiving the upgrade within 90 days of the update’s release. Of course, time will vary from region to region and variant to variant, but HTC’s been pretty good about sticking to their timelines over the past couple of years so we shouldn’t be subject to any lengthy delays.

A bit more on the surprising side is that the HTC One M7 Mini is now confirmed to be receiving Lollipop. The smartphone is only one year old, but it’s underpowered compared to its bigger sibling by a similar name. That said, Google said Android 5.0 Lollipop would be optimized for entry-level hardware and the HTC One M7 Mini sure has more than enough to handle the load. We’ll be looking to see if any other devices in HTC’s catalog will be in line to receive the upgrade so stay tuned.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Great job hTC. I wanna support it again by purchasing the Nexus 9 :)

  2. I don’t know how this comes as a surprise, when HTC said that the m7 would be getting l when Google previewed it several months back

  3. Can I get 4.4.4 for my AT&T M8 tho with the Eye experience tho…

    1. I’m pretty sure that 4.4.3 is equal to 4.4.4 on the m8 (it contains the OpenSSL fixes) and the whole EYE thing should be coming soon (sooner yet if you flash a Rom)

  4. hopefully LG follows this path and has plans for android L update for last year’s G2

    1. It’s a flagship, it’s highly likely it will be updated.

  5. Now us Samsung users are waiting to see if our devices will see an upgrade. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Note 2 didn’t get it, but at the same time I don’t see why it couldn’t. They kept feeding the original Note updates all the way up to jellybean I believe and that thing came with gingerbread if I’m correct.

  6. Hopefully they will update the HTC one e8 as well.

    1. For sure they will. It was just recently released. HTC seems to update its middle to top range devices.

  7. Anyone know if the S4 will get it?

    1. My opinion, but I’m almost positive the S4 will get it. We are still about 6 months or so from the S6, so I don’t see them withholding the 5.0 update.

  8. My GPE will get it even sooner than that. Ha Ha !!

    1. My Verizon M8 will be running a GPE ROM shortly after ;) lol

      1. Yep, full conversion is the best way to go, as opposed to just a ROM.

  9. Sony, HTC,Samsung,Motorola; all announced support for Android Lollipop for their older smartphones and where the F*** is great LG ? No announcement of update yet ?

  10. My M7 Developer Edition is eagerly waiting :P
