HTC gives timeline for HTC One Android 4.3 updates on Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T

HTC One rocks

After HTC brought the Android 4.3 upgrade to Sprint HTC One units yesterday, many on other carriers were wondering when they’d be able to get in on the fun. Thankfully, HTC is being as transparent as they can and have given us some pretty pointed release windows for a couple of America’s biggest carriers.

The HTC USA Twitter account has mentioned that AT&T and T-Mobile customers would see the upgrade mid-October. Those on Big Red, however, will have to wait until the end of the month. Despite this staggered rollout across the nation’s 4 biggest carriers, it’s still pretty good work by HTC and the carriers in comparison to rollout efforts for other devices.

We’re sure folks will be counting down the days until we see Android 4.4 on their respective handsets. Let’s not get too far ahead in regards to that, though — we still don’t even know what Android 4.4 is supposed to be bringing us.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Good job HTC. Finally some good positive news.

    1. It was good, positive news the moment they announce the HTC One. =.P

      1. Yep. Sure was I waited for months for this device and it was totally worth it. I love my One. HTC is my fave oem. I just dont want to see them do a Blackberry.

  2. And thats why I phux with HTC… Well done.

  3. Better sooner then Later…..

  4. Canada already has it! a co-worker has the One and 4.3 made a huge difference on it, works so much better now :D

    1. In what way?

      1. faster with a little smoother feel, better battery life. not that it relates to real-life use, but scoring higher across all benchmarks as well.

        1. I have better battery life on the Google Edition 4.3 ROM. =.S

The standby was on par with both, but usage, I noticed it was better on the Google Edition ROM I was using.

As far as performance, I don’t notice anything different. It still seems to run just as great. I will say that the update *didn’t* make the phone worst.

      2. 4.3 has TRIM for flash memory.

    2. Nice to hear… I may just go ahead and jump on 4.3 ROM, I know theres a ton available now… I been content w/ 4.2.2

  5. Here’s hoping they..well…actually meet their declared dates…

  6. Beating Samsung. Impressed. Continue to do the timely updates and you will have more sales.

  7. Awesome work, HTC! This should shut people up for about…. 3 weeks until 4.4 is announced. -_-

    1. Yep. Well said, Chris. I’m sure we’ll also get the “But what about (insert other phone here)?” whining, also!

  8. Big red will release that when the detox drops.

    1. I hear Detox is dropping when the original band members of Guns N Roses reunite.

  9. Let’s not forget here. Just because they are coming out with timely updates, does not mean they are gonna be getting more sales. Maybe to the tech savvy groups. But to the main consumers, most don’t even know what version of Android they’re even on. Or even really care. Like my family for instance. I tell them they’re on 4.1.2 and they’re like what? What’s that? Lol jellybean what? Ice cream sandwich? I know that’s just my family, but I know there are a ton more people out there that don’t know about that. HTC is still forgetting the main point for getting their devices sold. MARKETING. Well maybe they do know, but may not have the money to do so. Who knows. But we all know that if they can’t even have a couple commercials on TV, marketing their phones and the features it has, they won’t be selling as much as they should be. The One looks like a great phone and has some good features. Its to bad they can’t show it off (other than Facebook and other social media sites.) Don’t get me wrong. Its awesome they are getting their updates out, and that can help in some ways telling the consumer that its on the latest Android version. But the main thing is their marketing.

    1. The ONE has had quite a few commercials on TV, but i do agree, they need Samsung levels of Marketing.

  10. update… Bring down the notification while using 2 fingers for shortcut to widget. battery can now display percentage….that’s just a few

    1. its alrdy der in 4.2.2…

  11. Obligatory locked bootloader grumble. *grumble grumble free my phone, Verizon grumble grumble*

  12. sucks how they ignore their flagship Tmo phone from last year, the One S. come on, son!

    1. Yeah, and the EVO 4G LTE…

      1. The Evo 4G LTE is getting an update to 4.3 by the end of this year, was announced earlier today

        1. Bout dang time!

    2. They had to skip the One S since Qualcomm would not provide drivers.

    3. I’m sure they’ll get it, eventually (I wanna say by the end of the year). But you can expect that to be the last update.

  13. Viper ROMs are the best

  14. Notice how all the HTC haters hide from the forums when its positive news. HTC is delivering on its promise and giving us the updates when they say they will. They made a promise and they kept it. All of my Android phones have always been HTC.

    1. all HTC haters they hide in toliets when its good News About HTC.

      1. I believe it, dirty toilets, lol.

  15. HAHAHAHA, VZW customers…don’t hold your breath. They can’t even get flagship phones updated in a timely manner.

    1. Or a freaking NEXUS for that matter.

  16. I’ll believe it when I see it on Verizon – I predict November for the VZW One.

  17. so i have an EVO 4G LTE. got the new update for that phone today. “stability improvements”. I notice nothing. Any chance that me and my EVO posse (yeah i said that!) will receive a legit update. perhaps to 4.2.2 or 4.3 or maybe when its out there in the wild, 4.4? I’d be happy even if android version stayed at 4.1.2 and I just got sense 5. could this be a “preparation” update to get the phone ready for a larger one? it was 133 MB. i’d like a version update. come on. HTChange.

    1. It was announced earlier today that the Evo 4G LTE will receive a 4.3 android update by the end of the year, that’s coming directly from the HTC president.

      1. OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY REALLY REALLY REALLY!!!! TEEEHEEEHHEEEHEHE!!!! MY COMMENT SPAM HAS WORKED ALAS!!! any ideas of when tho?like more precise?

        1. That’s all the information he gave, “by the end of 2013”

          1. i wish we knew more.

  18. keep up the great work!

  19. Root your One. Flash the 4.3 developer Rom. done!

    1. This isn’t Google Play Edition, this is Sense 4.3

      1. Dev edition is sense as well

        1. but it requires S-OFF, flashing ENGhboot then changing your mid and cid to the brightstar variant CID:BS_US001 MID:PN0712000 to receive OTA’s

          1. which means its too complicated and sounds too scary for me.

  20. “End of month” for Verizon means several months later.

  21. the updates are for HTC one alone. the previous model like htc one x or one s doesnt get updates. but it is nice of samsung gets the updates to s3 and even note 2. the previous year models are not left behind.

  22. About time HTC started making good on some of these updates. A little too late for me since I’ve already migrated over to Samsung but at least my wife can enjoy her 4.3 Sprint update, even if she doesn’t know what the hell it means :)

    1. Unfortunately seems unlikely now. There were strong rumors for awhile that the Evo would get 4.2.2, but with 4.3 out and 4.4 looming, I feel it’s unlikely htc will roll out a 4.2.2 update for the evo. 4.1.2 is likely as far as it will go, as I’m fairly sure it will not reach 4.3/4 either.

      1. Actually it was announced by HTC that the Evo 4G LTE will get 4.3 by the end of the year, heard this earlier today and I’m part of HTCs elevate group.

  24. I think HTC is doing amazing things this year, I mean look at the One it speaks for itself… Sense 5, Aluminum unibodies, carrier availability, Android updates, marketing, google edition one, quality everywhere even their mid-ranger is by far the best… only if they would’ve started all of this last year they’d be 50/50 with samsung right now.

  25. I’m on sprint, got 4.3 on my HTC one on rollout today. It’s smooth as butter :-)

    1. what else?

they’re saying “tons of bug fixes” I have a One and haven’t noticed any bugs.

  26. Direct from HTC: the ATT version of the HTC One will be updated next week and also that the EVO 4G LTE will get a 4.3 update by the end of the year. Just letting yall know.

      1. I asked the big dog at HTC USA on Twitter earlier. He said Tuesday.
