15 New Markets Getting Verizon 4G LTE Launches and Expansions August 18th

14

This is just ridiculous (and I mean that in a good way) – Verizon is expanding and launching LTE in 15 different markets on August 18th. Highlights include Tucson, AZ; Albany, NY; Omaha, NE and more. Take a look at the full list of cities getting new 4G services and expansions:

New Markets:

  • Frederick, MD
  • Tuscon, AZ
  • Ft. Collins, CO
  • Johnstown and Altoona, PA
  • Omaha and Council Bluffs, NE
  • Bakersfield, Salinas, and Monterey, CA
  • Provo/Orem, UT
  • Ithaca, Albany, and Syracuse, NY
  • Greater Worcester, MA

Expanded Markets:

  • Salt Lake City, UT
  • Nyack, West Nyack, Orangeburg, Pearl River And Spring Valley, NY
  • Cincinnati and Columbus, OH
  • Metrowest, MA

That’s always good to hear, and quite frankly makes us wonder why other carriers aren’t able to carry out widespread launches like Verizon can. Ah well, those of you who are Verizon customers aren’t complaining. Things go down in just a few short weeks. [Verizon via Engadget]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I’ll tell you why no one else is expanding their 4G Quentyn!
TMobile is America’s largest 4G, and they’re being bought out, so they probably don’t see a point in it.
ATT is waiting for their acquisition of TMobile to begin more 4G roll outs to top the vast 4G coverage TMobile has already.
Sprint is currently wondering how to get the show on the road with LightSquared, so 4G expansion is on hold until Sprints big announcement this fall.

And there ya have it! :D

    1. It’s cute that you think hspa+ is real 4G.

      1. Um… that’s your opinion… If it wasn’t 4G that’d be false advertising. I wouldn’t be a smartass about it. Facts are facts and HSPA+ is deemed 4G whether you like it or not. :/

        1. It is a 3G technology, no matter what name tmobile and att gives it. LTE is a 4G tech, HSPA+ is a 3G tech….like it or not. Why do you think everybody is going to LTE?

        2. False advertising occurs all the time; it’s kind of the modus operandi in advertising and politics. You might say they’re stretching the truth or maybe being a little misleading, but companies are not immune to lying to get our business. (And that’s why the fine print is ever so fine).

  2. Yes! Tucson, FINALLY! Now bring us the Droid Bionic, and we’ll be all set.

    1. Are you fucking stupid? Motorola really? Motorola makes terrible phones, so don’t waste your money. You should be looking at the new Samsung Galaxy s2 with 4g, that thing will be a beast.

      1. LOL. Did you seriously just ATTACK him and call him “fucking stupid” for being excited about a phone?

And really, are you actually going to pretend and lie to yourself, as if the Bionic isn’t THE most anticipated phone right now? (It is, factually.)

Also, I’ve had my Droid X since last August. Rarely have any issues.

        Grow up.

      2. Such language…tisk tisk
That’s the best phone on the horizon for me. I don’t like Samsung, TouchWiz is terrible, way worse than Motoblur. What I really want is an HTC dual core 4G, maybe by Christmas.

      3. It’s cute that you’re a phone fanboy when no one would actually want to talk to someone like you. Can we please get the “flag” feature working?

      4. Bigwillie,

        Please grow up.

  3. Except T-Mobile’s 4G is 4G only in marketing hype only, not technologically speaking.

And Sprint is always busy trying to figure out how they can best screw over Clearwire by implementing their own LTE and alienating their former 4G WiMax provider.

And then there’s AT&T. Always a dollar short and late to the party. They spend as little money on their network as possible to keep their customers from leaving in max exodus.

  4. Basically my town gets 4g LTE the exact same time the SGSII gets here. OMG OMG OMG.

  5. Fort Collins Woo Hoo!!!! I’ve noticed 4G coming in and out over the last several weeks. I assumed (hoped) that they were testing it here! Awesome!
