Samsung Says Anymode’s Smart Cover Clone was Never Approved, Pulls from Site

11

The Anymode Smart Case isn’t shy about it’s resemblance to Apple’s iPad 2 Smart Cover — they barely had the decency to change the name — but it’s the fact that it is designed for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that really created a bit of a stir. In light of an ongoing lawsuit from Apple, it seemed a bold move for Samsung to market the obvious knock-off through their own retail channels. Now the Korean manufacturer is chalking the whole thing up to “oversight,” responding that the Anymode case never received the “Designed for Samsung Mobile” stamp of approval and promptly having the item pulled from Anymode’s site. Samsung is now working with the accessory company to resolve the problem, though no cases were ever sold. We imagine the conversation between the two companies started off with something along the lines of “What the heck were you thinking?”

  1. Isn’t the Ipad cover a knockoff of a product made for the IPad from an outside company? In essence, this is a knockoff of a knockoff.

  2. samsung is not sserious are they???

  3. I want it! Its better then apple’s cause it protects the back too.

  4. Why should Samsung care, they are not the one who created it.

    1. With articles by Kevin speaking about “Samsung’s Smart Cover Knock Off” they might have wanted to play it safe in regard to the suit from Apple even though they have nothing to do with the accessory.

    1. Rock solid argument you have there. May the world be blessed with many more intellectuals such as yourself. (Sarcasm, in case you can’t tell. Personally, I would prefer people like you to go jump off a cliff.)

      1. Well said, dude didn’t have anything good or even funny to say anyways.

  6. If I had a galaxy Tab 10.1, I would get one. My cousin uses a smart cover on his ipad and it works great if for no other purpose than as a kickstand.

I don’t think Apple patented this so I say, copy away. Even if Apple did patent it, they wouldn’t be able to do anything really, half of their patents are invalidated in court anyway.

  7. Apple stole the case design from someone else. Let people get upset. What Anymode and Samsung should be doing is pointing out that the case is not Apple’s design.
