Owners of the European HTC Hero, HTC Legend, HTC Desire, HTC Wildfire, and HTC Aria can now download a new version of HTC Sync to optimize synchronization between PC and handset. The description provided doesn’t shed much light on what is new in the latest version, but it might be safe to assume that it will be similar to the version made available for the Wildfire recently.

“You can use HTC Sync™ to synchronize Outlook contacts and calendar or Outlook Express contacts and the bookmarks of web browser between your computer and your phone. It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and bring your photos, videos, documents, songs, and playlists to your phone.”

Download the latest version here to get going.

  1. Google needs to build something like this that will work for any android phone. This is the one thing still missing, especially for any (non HTC owning) Android noobs.

  2. Come on are you serious?! I’ve been using HTC Sync 3 since a month with my Hero and it IS the HTC Sync for Wildfire just now available for HTC phones with Android 2.1+

  3. @Cris_Tate could not agree more. The iphone does this very well. Android, not so good. Seems like the phone needs to be rooted to do the nandroid backup.

  4. People we’re living in a modern age here!
Why still use that old usb technology, while we’re all connected 24/7 to the internet via our mobile phones.

I for instance sync my contacts and calendar with gmail and from there it will automatically appear on my android device.

  5. Don’t know why you feel the need to backup your phone over USB anyway it’s so old skool!

You can run frequent syncs of your contacts and Calender over over gmail or Exchange. And with froyo (don’t think its on eclair) you can backup your bookmarks and application list on to the Google cloud. No need to frequently connect to a PC.

  6. I get page not found when trying to download the file???

  7. The version released for Wildfire was 3.0.5387. The version available for Desire is 3.0.5422. So not a huge difference in the version numbers but there is a difference.

They seem to have messed up the URLs for downloads. There is a backslash in front of “HTC Wildfire” in the URL. Remove that and the file should download OK. There is a thread about this in the forums. I used this URL (one of the Asia sites) and it seems to have worked OK:
    http://203.73.25.118/download/Driver/HTC%20Wildfire/setup_3.0.5422.exe . ~55Mb download.

  8. That’s amazing for sure. Such applications will make worry free about your data. I love the OS and it’s apps. How to see a good and reliable dual sim supported phone. Since, I have subscribed to 2 connections.

  9. Doesn’t work in the UK (Desire), I assume it’s mainland Europe.

  10. pt21: UK is europe? surely this should work, if not. do we know when?

  11. @Gareth Yes and no. But for these purposes it looks like no, I put in my serial number and it refused my O2 branded Desire.

  12. Does anyone know whether HTC finally fixed the handles spawning bug present in the previous versions?

  13. Will this work for Nexus One? Still not good solution to sync MS Outlook with this phone.

  14. Unlocked Desire here, seem to be offered a link that does not download?

the problem is not the mechanism, (USB or otherwise), that the sync gets done between outlook and android… its that it gets done at all. as of yet, no working solution to synchronize a FULL CONTACT to android from outlook exists, including categories and birthdays and spouse names and company names etc. the third party apps are clugy and regularly produce duplicates in one direction or another. I need categories on my calendar entries becuase i use my phone as more than just a a toy.

I dont understand how i can use this phone as a metal detector for gods sake but it cant tell me where i need to be on tuesday morning. its weak. I would feel much better about suffering with this for the better part of two years if the news on the horizon was better. But it appears that froyo will be as gelded as ever.

  16. I just have installed the new version on my desire.
    The program works reliable.

What I am missing is the “repair” function. In the previous version it was possible to delete Contacts/Calendar items prior to the sync (wipe all items).
I also liked the statistics on items installed on my mobile/PC and the final report.

Perhaps I have not completely read the instructions, but for me, I will revert back to have above functions.

  17. I have the HTC EVO 4g and can only get the basic htc sync at this time. Cant wait to be able to get the 3.0 ver. From what I understand, Its not available to north America yet…crazy! I want to be able to swap pics and songs.

  18. Does not work with 0ffice2010 64 bit
