By If you are a Google Voice user — or one of those lucky students who just got to sign up for Google’s voicemail transcription and calling service — you probably have already seen that little update notification informing you that a new version of Google Voice was released today (geeze, I can’t wait for auto-updates in Froyo), and if you haven’t, well guess what…Google Voice was updated today.
Among fixing some general bugs, the update improves Inbox Synchronization and adds in the ability to turn off SMS forwarding of transcribed voicemails via the app. The app also gets upgraded to Android 2.2 support, so you won’t have to worry about that when Froyo starts rolling out.
I get maybe one voicemail every 2 weeks, but I love me some Google Voice. It makes checking that one voicemail so much easier. If you aren’t using it, what are you waiting for? Go find yourself an invite, I’m sure some of the folks in the comments would love to help out.
I’m not using it because it’s not available in the UK yet.. *cries all the way home*
If anyone would like to help out, my g/f needs an invite for her Incredible. I have had it for my Droid since December or January and never had an invite to give.
I am also looking for an invite! I registered with google earlier today so I could wait for one, but if someone wants to help that’d be great!

I just got Google Voice a couple weeks ago. No one invited me. I pretty much just downloaded the App and I had it.
A couple hours prior to installing the App, I did apply for a Google Voice account, but I don’t know if that had any weight in my getting the account.
I’m a pastor that needs to receive emergency phone calls. This would solve my problems of giving out multiple numbers. Anyone with an extra invite that would be willing to send one my way would help my out greatly. Thanks

You failed to mention the most important feature of this update!
Before, when I got a google voice SMS my notification would say “Google Voice: 1 unread”
And now the notification says “[Contact]: [Message Text]” just like it says when I get a text message directly to my cell phone!

I had google voice for about 2 weeks (thanks to the student invite ) didnt think i was going to like it at first, but after i got a few voice mail i love it. i get a text e-mail visual VM. so glad that i kept it

Another part of the update that is sweet, is when you call out with Voice. it used to show up on the other person’s phone as 1800-GOOG-411, now it shows your actually Google Voice #. Voice plans with your provider are on the verge of extinction once Google fully implements Gizmo5 into Voice. Can’t wait.

I would like to see an improvement to the short cut on the home screen. It would be nice to have an unread count listed like that on Gmail Unread Count and Handcent.
It also fixes the inability to use it on MT3G 1.2 (any with 3.5mm headphone jack-black, white, or fender). The previous version wasn’t compatible with it (at least not with mine or some of the others I heard from).
