We knew it was “coming soon,” we’re just glad it was sooner rather than later. A full 2-days after the Nexus 5 received Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Nexus 4 is now finally getting the same treatment.

After promising yesterday they were putting the finishing touches on the update, it’s now officially available to download straight from Google’s Nexus factory image page. For all those with knowledge in applying an update like this via adb/fastboot, you can download direct from Google right here.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

Has your Nexus 6 shipped yet?

  1. It’s gonna be a busy weekend…

  2. I still haven’t seen any update on the Nexus 5.

    1. You don’t know where to look.

Hint: The answer is not in the settings menu on your phone, no matter how many times you say check again.

      1. I know how to get it I’m just waiting for the OTA update.

        1. If you how to get it now, why are waiting for the notification, so that you can get it later? Is it some kind of test in self deprivation? What you get by downloading via the captured OTA url is the exact same data.

          1. Because I’m not part of the Now Generation.

          2. Well Rajendra82 is right – you don’t have to wait. It’s certainly not rocket science to download it and install it. Anyone can do it but if you are not playing with these things all the time, like some guys are, there is just a chance that you could screw it up.

          3. I know it’s not rocket science. I actually go to college for computer technology. I have 5 different operating systems in my house. I have a mini itx hooked up to 3 monitors running Fedora. I have an atx that I game on running Windows 7. I have a Nexus 5 with android. I have an Ipad mini 2 with ios8. Last but not least I have a windows 8 tablet.

  3. I just want my nexus 5 ota :(

    1. Captured URLs for Nexus 5 OTA are readily available, as are instructions on how to adb sideload the downloaded update. There is absolutely no need to wait to get your OTA notification. There are more advantages to owning a Nexus than just cheap price that iterations 4 and 5 had.

  4. UK Nexus 5 or 7 ota not out yet

  5. Ahhh I remember the days I loved getting OTAs from Google. But I moved onto custom Roms for past couple years now. Waiting for Omnirom Lollipop rom!

    Keep it up Google

  6. Seeing all these pictures of the Nexus 4 are reminding me just how sexy this phone is.

    1. Yep, that phone was my favorite phone build of all time. The glass back with the sturdy rubberized outer rim was really nice. The back gave it style and the outer rim gave it usability and practicality.

  7. Woot! N4 love! Mine is still going strong! The best cost to performance ratio smartphone ever.

  8. Where is my n5 update

  9. Is there a perdicted time for OTA?

    1. OTA zip file is already out.. so OTAs have already started

  10. Kitkat 4.4.4 took months to arrive OTA for my Nexus 5 – about 6 weeks after the Nexus 4 got it. This time the Nexus 5 received the update less than 24 hours after it was released! But if it takes a while it’s well worth waiting for.

    1. You never have to wait for OTA on Nexus. It’s easy to flash factory images, without losing any data. All you need to do is learn how to one. Screw patience.
