Nexus 5 Play Store now available

The Nexus 5 has officially appeared in the Google Play Store! The device is sitting there live, in the flesh, in 16GB and 32GB variants (for $350 and $400, respectively). Just as we’ve learned in the numerous leaks since, well, the beginning of time, the Nexus 5 is a beast of a device.

Nexus 5 Specs

Just take heed to the following specs:

  • 5-inch display with 1920×1080 resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 800, 2.3GHz
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 16GB / 32GB of internal storage
  • WiFi ac, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0 LE
  • 2,300 mAh battery with wireless charging built-in
  • microUSB with SlimPort
  • and more

Carrier Availability

You have a couple of different options if you aren’t down with buying it unlocked. So far, we know Sprint and T-Mobile are both billed as official carriers for the device. The Now Network is launching it November 8th, with the 16GB version being let go for $150 and the 32GB version for $200. T-Mobile’s being more hush on the details, though they said it should be here in time for the holidays.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  7. I peed

  8. Bought it! Thanks Chris!

  9. Got mine.

  10. Will it work with VZW?

    1. I’m guessing now. Doesn’t look like there’s an option for CDMA or GSM.

      1. Sprint is CDMA

      2. Google chat support said one device for GSM and CDMA excluding Verizon.

    2. It said sprint and t-mobile but I am sure it will also work with att.

      1. Google chat support claims one device for all of North America will work on GSM or CDMA only excluding Verizon.

        1. Fack. Figures.

        2. You are 100% awesome.

    3. Verizon is a no at this time, per Google chat support.

      1. Looks like Im out of VZW and off to tmobile – who needs to be connected all the time anyway…LOL

    4. No, Sprint and T-Mobile officially. I think it will work on AT&T as well. Not Verizon as it doesn’t have the 13 band for LTE that Verizon uses. Technically, I think it could work on Verizon CDMA (3G) though, if you could get it activated.

    5. no. it will not. nor will it ever.

  11. NO!! It’s not in the UK play store yet!!! *despairs* – Never mind..it’s there…

    1. Yes it is, click the link £349 for 32GB

    2. yes it is, £299 for 16GB, £339 for 32GB

  12. click on the link provided! I just place my order.

  13. just got it. thanks.

  14. The white version is just white on the back but black everywhere else. Not impressed by that. I wanted to see white front face too.

  15. I seeeee nothing!!!!!

  16. Ordered mine as well

  17. It’s in stock in Canada

  18. Yay, got my order in for a white one. Woot!

  19. the page is blank. FAIL!

  20. YES!! Just ordered mine. WTF!!

  21. Ordered 2. Says they will leave warehouse on 11/5.

  22. Do my eyes deceive? Is it a single North America SKU? All carriers, one device? Can we get some clarification?

  23. won’t work on Verizon

  24. Only showing black 16Gb. The second I see the white 32Gb, I’m on it.

  25. Just ordered two black 32gb. $798 subtotal, $11,99 shipping, $48.60 tax. Total of $858.89. I’m glad all of this suspense is over!

  26. Only for T-Mobile and Sprint Networks :*(
I guess I made a good choice pulling the trigger on the G2 on VZW

    1. And AT&T.

EDIT: It says CDMA band 0/1/10, and Verizon uses CDMA band 0 and 1… So this should work on VZW, just no LTE until Band 4(AWS) comes online.

      1. I dont see AT&T listed though

        1. They’re not listed, but if it works on T-Mobile, it’ll work on AT&T. T-Mobile uses the same bands for Voice and LTE, just one extra band for HSPA+ that AT&T doesn’t use.

          1. T-Mobile does not use the same LTE bands…

          2. AT&T uses bands 4 and 17 for LTE. Which are listed on the spec page.

Not sure why it doesn’t list AT&T as carrier.

          3. T-Mobile and AT&T both use AWS. You’re right, AT&T uses band 17 and T-Mobile doesn’t… I forgot about that.

          4. Actually, T-Mo is 1700/2100. AT&T is 700 or something. I could be off on that.

          5. 1700/2100MHz is AWS or Band 4.

            700MHz is Band 17

T-Mobile uses Band 4 for LTE. AT&T uses both Band 4 and 17.

        2. Nexus 5 is unlocked. I called the play store and they told me it supports AT&T.

      2. So it would work if I buy the phone now and wait for Verizon LTE band 4 to come in right?

        1. That’s making the major assumption that Verizon would activate it for you. Remember, they still use the ESN for voice instead of the SIM card, so you have to get them to provision/OK the phone on their end.

          1. thanks this also sucks for me because I’m under my uncles business plan for this and I know he won’t leave anytime soon due to his work related issues.

    2. You expected a nexus 5 on verizon after what they did with the galaxy nexus? Some people really do beleive in pipe dreams…

      1. Yea I knew, hence the reason I went ahead with the G2.

    3. It works on everything except Verizon, per Google chat.

  27. 32gb already sold out in UK :/

    1. Wow, I must’ve got it with seconds to spare! Kudos to Google for not having the system a buggy nightmare this time though.

    2. Ahh it’s back, along with the white in the UK.

  28. Nexus 4 16GB now shows as Coming Soon!

  29. I bought 4!!!!!!!!

    1. 4…gosh…stunned..so hw much incl taxes ?

  30. About time! ^__^

  31. Supported Service
Unlocked: Use with any provider that offers service on Nexus 5 supported networks
    Carriers: T-Mobile, Sprint

Seems very odd ATT is not included.

    1. I was wondering about that too. I’m not on AT&T but I still found it rather odd that it was missing. Also missing, any mention of the Google Drive addition from the rumor post earlier.

  32. Woo just ordered 32gb white nexus 5 :D

  33. Just ordered a black 32GB model. Ships on Nov. 5. :-)

    1. how much incl taxes & shipment ?

      1. In Canadian funds:

$399 for the phone, $16.99 shipping, $51.87 taxes.

        Altogether $467.86

Does anyone know if Canadian orders will ship from Canada, or the US?

        1. LG Canada has a separate stock pile for canadian nexus 5 orders. (there was a picture of it as one of the NUMEROUS leaks)

          1. I thought the LG Canada stash is being sent to Canadian carriers only (Bell, Rogers, Wind, Telus, etc.). And Canadians who order off of Google Play will get it sent from the US.

I noticed when I placed my order it said ‘International Priority’ for shipping, or something like that. Which suggests that it’s being sent from the US.

          2. My N5 shipped. I got the tracking number last night. It is being shipped from the US. It left Kentucky last night and I should have it by Thursday.

  34. Aww skeet skeet! So much smoother than last year!

    1. Too true, I was sure I’d missed it and the site would be crashed when I didn’t pay attention to my message from Tmo I had missed by an hour, but still got a black N5 16GB!

  35. I hope Google manage to get these shipped in order this time.

  36. i picked the worst time to head to the bathroom the 32gb sold out

    1. I can still put it in my cart….

      1. I just refreshed it came back for me before it only showed the 16gb before

    2. I was just gonna say, I was able to order two 32 GB models just moments ago.

  37. Quick somebody tell me do they have this for Verizon

    1. No

    2. Nope.

  38. I got a white 32gb — I’m so EXCITED!! LOVE my Nokia 925 and love my G2….But I am overwhelmed with excitement to return to stock Android because the N4 rocked.

  39. when is Indian release?? Its been showing as cooming soon….

  40. So, I could buy this phone, activate it on Sprint, then when my contract runs out in April I can take the same phone and move over to t-mobile with no fuss? That would be rad!

    1. That’s what it looks like

    2. Sprint will have 800LTE turned on by then to expand coverage and 2500 for far more capacity. Tmobile has no lower band to improve coverage, which can be quite awful depending on area.

So a better way to put it, Tmobile and ATT N5 users will be able to easily switch to Sprint when Sprint gets 800 widely available.

      1. As someone who has been holding out year after year for Sprint to roll out improvement after improvement and has been disappointed each time, I think it’s safe to say that the extra LTE band won’t make a bit of difference.

        1. Sprint is now Softbank and they are putting $16B into network. Different deal now but yeah, if Sprint doesn’t have 800LTE in your area by April, dump them. If they do, would rethink Tmobile who has no lower band and even smaller coverage.

  41. No press conference? Is this a joke? For reals?

    Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

    1. So all us nerds get to get the goods first;-)

  42. I’m waiting a few months before I get mine. I want to make sure all the bugs are worked out and there is adequate inventory. I’m laughing at all of you super excitable girls for losing sleep and then buying this without really knowing how good this device is.

    1. That’s where the 15 day return policy comes in.

      1. That’s my plan!

    2. I’m laughing at anyone with the screen name “rectal bleeding” mock, well, anyone for, well anything.

  43. I just got my order in for the black 32 gb.

    1. how much incl taxes ?

      1. $449.64 with 2-day delivery.

      2. $37.90 plus $9.99 for shipping.

  44. Damnit… I ordered it and shipped it to my house. I might have to sign for it and I’m never home. HNNNG.

    1. If it’s UPS, you can “hold for delivery”. I usually do that when I order a new toy so I can pick it up as soon as the distribution center opens instead of having to wait for the UPS truck to show up.

Edit: I THINK you can also change the delivery address but don’t quote me on that.

  45. UK CPW show SIM Free as £295, so a bit cheaper.

  46. T-mobile and Sprint only? Ew… seriously, ew.

    1. Nexus 5 is unlocked. I called the play store and they told me it supports AT&T.

  47. Official site is up: http://www.google.com/nexus/5/

  48. yeeeeeeeea boooiiiieeeee!

  49. Got my white 32gb! W00t!!! Love how they didn’t have a press conference so the die-hard nexus fans get it first.

  50. More questions.. Is the battery upgradeable or will that battery carry the phone all day?

Don’t want to get stuck with another Razr 4 hour battery.

    1. The battery is not upgradable, however, it’s just a matter of time before a youtube video will pop up with a tutorial on how to open it up and put a G2 battery in this bad boy..

Not that everybody will be willing to do that.. just saying.

    2. The new Snapdragon 800 should allow for very frugal use of the battery. The battery times on the Play Store site seem very generous:
      Battery
      2,300 mAH
Talk time up to 17 hours*
Standby time up to 300 hours*
Internet time up to 8.5 hours on Wi-Fi, up to 7 hours on LTE*

  51. I don’t see the white version…

    1. just change the URL to white

  52. only 16 GB availale

  53. Just ordered a 32g white one! :-)

  54. As usual – and not a surprise – no MicroSD. 32GB just doesn’t cut it for me on an external SD, let alone the entire phone’s storage including ROM. Sigh.

  55. How come no AT&T support ?(Verizon was too much to hope for). The only carriers mentioned are T-Mobile and Sprint which are both useless.

    1. All the bands are there for AT&T. Should work, just not listed. Maybe an oversight?

      1. probably because tmobile and sprint is selling it through their carrier so you can buy it directly through them

      2. I hope so but the fact that AT&T isn’t listed may mean that they won’t sell you a SIM card for it.

        1. Does AT&T even ask what phone you’re going to put it in?

    2. I called Google Play support and they said Nexus 5 is unlocked and will work with AT&T.

  56. Got my order in for a 32 GB in black now back to waiting.

    1. Weird, the only options it shows for me is 16 GB Black. I can’t click a dropdown or anything!

      1. When I tried in chrome, that was the only option, but when I went through safari, I saw the others. Try a different browser.

      2. I had the same thing. Click on a bumper. Then go to the bottom of the screen and click on the Nexus model you want.

  57. All these mysterious Google events and they just drop the bomb in the middle of the day with no press event? I’m not much interested in the Nexus 5, but I am interested in hearing about the Nexus 10 2 and learning more about KitKat from the proverbial horse’s mouth.

  58. Just ordered my 16gb white!

  59. To anyone that could one see the 16 GB Black verison (like me), they just updated it and added the white and 32 GB

    1. you can also change the URL from black to white.

  60. Another O2 UK Exclusive deal, for those hoping to buy in a shop… http://news.o2.co.uk/?press-release=o2-to-exclusively-sell-32gb-nexus-5

    1. That was totally me:-) I’m like a tall Carlton:-P

    2. What a fun day! But I have to be honest, for a while there some of us were acting like those crazed Apple supporters screaming at those iPhone launches…

  61. Quote: “Android 4.4, KitKat, which comes on Nexus 5, will also soon be available on Nexus 4, 7, 10, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks.”

    No Samsung Galaxy Nexus update?

    1. I think there should be. They are just naming the most recent Nexus devices and GPE devices.

    2. VZW galaxy nexus will of course only get the update after rigorous (read months and months) of testing by VZW engineers…..LOL

  62. On its way…white,32GB….thank God, the leaks are over

  63. when do I get my 4.4 update for my nexus 4?

    1. in the coming weeks….

  64. Hallelujah!!!!!!!!

  65. Nexus 5 32GB ordered with ship by Nov. 5th estimate. It looks like the Nexus 5 16GB Black is “out of inventory” now already.

    1. now the Nexus 5 32GB black is shipping 11/8… Seems like the 16GB black is back in stock. It’s the white one now showing OOS…

      1. Strange…Now all 4 variants show Nov. 8th (a minute ago the white 16GB was showing out of stock).

        1. ditto

  66. Currently holding the phone on my cart but wondering if this phone carriers Verizon’s CDMA band and will have the LTE band 4 which Verizon will roll out later this year would the phone work for me or not?

    1. Verizon uses CDMA 0 and 1, and this does support both.

Remember, though, you have to call Verizon to activate, not just pop in a SIM. And they weren’t activating the Nexus 7 LTE for several months after release because it hadn’t “passed QA yet”.

      1. This is driving me crazy I called Verizon and they are not even sure themselves

        1. Not surprising. I’d be surprised if any of the carriers know too much yet.

I would give it a couple weeks and see what other people find. I’m sure someone who has multiple lines on different services will test it and report at XDA or on here.

      2. Does US cellular use those bands too?

        1. US Cellular uses Band 12 for LTE, which the Nexus 5 doesn’t have.

The Nexus does have band 5, which US Cellular is adding next year.

As for voice, I’m not sure.

(Everyone does know I’m just looking at the carrier’s bands on Wikipedia, and comparing them to the specs on the store, right? That’s all it is…)

    2. The Nexus7 works with a Verizon LTE sim card……… so if you put a Verizon LTE sim card inside the Nexus5. there is a fair chance you will ONLY have internet connectivity but no voice minutes.

  67. Its a little more expensive in the UK. $400 for the 32GB option = £250. Then you have to add the 20% VAT which takes it to £300, so why are Google charging an extra £40 on top of that? Not a happy boy!

    1. Ouch! Thought the taxes were bad enough here, but man…

      1. Yep! Takes the complete price to $545 (exc shipping)

  68. I wanted the 16gb white, but got the 32GB white instead since it was instock.

  69. Anyone know if it will work with US Cellular’s network?

    1. Theoretically yes, but nothing officially, yet, and I’ve not heard of them allowing BYOD.

      1. It depends. I know a few people so it’s a possibility. I just have to figure out my sim card issue.

        1. Well then you should be good to go, but the other issue is it doesn’t support band 12 LTE.

        2. U.S. Cellular SIM cards don’t work like AT&T where you can just move them to a new device ….or at least they didn’t when I worked there…

  70. The black 32GB is saying it will leave the warehouse by 8th November, but the white within the next couple of days. Would’ve thought the white one would be more popular – it’s certainly prettier!

    1. Once you put a case on you’ll never see it

      1. That won’t be happening – not at the prices of the official cases on the Play store anyway! £35!

        1. True that

    2. I really like the white one but I was worried that after time it might become dingy/dirty. So I played it safe and got the black 16gig. Figured I can just put a white case on for now..

  71. I got mine when it said 1-2 business days 32GB White

    1. I don’t know if anybody else notice that google release everything on Thursdays.

  72. DROOOOOLING for this..but I know what usually happens to first adopters.

  73. Is the playstore version this like the Nexus 4 unlocked? Working in the rest of the world with gsm carriers?

    1. It is unlocked but you need to make sure your carrier uses the supported frequencies:
      Network
      2G/3G/4G LTE
      GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
      CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
      WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
      LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

      1. Cool, thanks.

  74. youtube.com/watch?v=oWD6O53F6yc

  75. The Nexus 5 description says “wireless Charging built-in” but what accessory do you need for wireless charging to work?

    1. A wireless charger that supports qi charging, like the N4 orb.

      1. I’ve tried a couple different ones with my S3. The Nokia DT900 is by far the best one!

    2. Any Qi compatible wireless charger will work just fine.

  76. Is it just me or is it missing infrared for TV control? Yes – I’m being picky

    1. It’s $350-400 off contract. You’re asking too much.

      1. not really.. ir blaster is a great feature in other great phones with much better specs.

        1. But are twice the price. Stop being ignorant.

    2. What is this? 1998? No, Android devices don’t need IR ports.

  77. got mine 2 black 32gb!! can’t wait

  78. Damn 16gig is sold out already.

    1. no its not.
      you can still buy it!

      1. Thanks you saved me!

  79. Got mine!

  80. Looks like I got a better deal than you guys. I got my 16GB version for a dollar less at $349.

  81. meh… not that great of specs.

    1. Show us another unlocked phone with Android updates from Google in the same price range and better specs… Go ahead, I’ll wait…

  82. Acquire LGG2, better specs, basically same phone. Root it. Then flash it.

  83. AAHHH! THAT BATTERY ISN’T LARGE ENOUGH! My extended G-nex is a turd and I’m constantly tethered to the wall. Ugh.

  84. This phone wont have near the impact that it should for 2 reasons:
    1. Plastic: really after all the crap Samsung catches over this and Google’s Flagship is plastic?
    2. Not on Verizon: Really, the largest carrier in the country that does nothing but pick up subscribers every quarter ( guess where those are coming from), and Google can’t manage to appease them. Phail!
Can’t wait for the G5, think its going to be a game changer this time!

    1. Let me give you a friendly reminder why it will have a BIG impact, especially for the tech savvy crew.

    2. God clearly you don’t know anything so let me enlighten you.

      1. The fact that the GS4 is made out of plastic is NOT the reason why people give it a hard time. People give it a hard time because it feels like a toy and doesn’t feel premium whatsoever. There are many phones out there that look/feel fantastic and are made out of plastic (Nokia Lumia 1020, HTC One X, etc.)

      2. You imply that because Verizon is the largest carrier in the U.S., Verizon customers don’t have the option of SWITCHING to another carrier.

      3. The majority of people don’t need more than 16gb of storage. That’s why the 16GB iPhone has been so popular for the longest time. If someone really has a butt ton of music, chances are they have an iPod for the purpose of playing music.

      1. 1. And yet the Gs4 has outsold all of those other phones combined. But I guess that is just because people aren’t as “cool” as you. Lol

        2. I imply that even though Verizon is ALREADY the largest carrier in the US that they are still picking up large numbers every quarter which means those users are switching from other carriers since the market is widely viewed as saturated.

        3. I am sorry that YOU have only 16gb or less of music, how sad! But I ,and many like me, have over 80 GB of music and that of course does not count any video content. An SD drive allows for quick swapping of media content. And the whole point of owning a smartphone is to eliminate the multiple devices.

Hmm. It appears that it is YOU that don’t know anything!

  85. Meh. Between the Camera, Battery size, no SD slot, and a little light on the RAM (for a next Gen phone) this is already a generation behind on debut. Yeah, it’s unlocked and you can do whatever with it but carriers ARE getting better at having updates out lately. To me the whole “Unlocked” thing only matters if it can be unlocked AND the hardware is cutting edge. Granted, for the price it’s good but my belief is phones are hideously overpriced to begin with!

  86. YOLO guys I have found better ways to improve laptop’s battery life take a look! http://goo.gl/Cm92G1

  87. And how can I buy it unlocked?
