Almost got swept away in all the Samsung Galaxy S3 news that I forgot to tell you guys about another very important update today. SwiftKey Beta 3 was updated to version 3.0.0.190 earlier today and brings a loads of bug fixes and tweaks. As my personal softkeyboard of choice on my Galaxy Nexus, I welcomed the update with open arms. Here’s what you can look forward to since the last version:

  • Improved the UI: there is now a dedicated comma key, and the <123> key is now in the bottom-left corner. And of course you still have the larger spacebar.
  • Refined the Smart Punctuation pop-up.
  • Reintroduced the Long-press duration setting.
  • Improved Smart Space functionality.
  • Further reduced lag on some devices.
  • Fixed a number of bugs, including the missing decimal point in the numpad and the “What’s New” dialog popping up all the time.

Normally restricted to VIP members of their forums, I noticed SwiftKey publicly tweeted the following download links and I have made them available to you guys. If you haven’t tried it out yet, now would be a great time. Enjoy!

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. <3 Swiftkey. I'm happy for the bug fixes. I was able to live with the "what's new" box popping up randomly, but the random punctuation bug that would repeat the last word typed word over and over without being able to type anything else was horrible.

  2. I’m very glad they fixed the What’s New bug. That was so annoying everytime I tried searching for something lol

    1. Yeah, I uninstalled the first version because of that. It’s great now though.

  3. Works great. SwiftKey rules

  4. Loving the new update! SwiftKey is my personal alternative to stock!

  5. I like swiftkey…I like Swype just a little bit more…I change between them every couple of weeks…if only we could combine the best of both, I would be a happy camper.

    1. it’s been over 2 yrs and swype still in beta…..

      1. I think at this point, the beta tag is pretty much meaningless.

  6. I was using SwiftKey X but I think I like this version better.

  7. I have been using the stock ICS keyboard now for a while.. was always a fan of Swype and at that time felt that SwiftKey always fell short of predictions of what I am trying to swipe. Should I give it another try? Did they improve this lately?

    1. Well there’s your problem…….. Swiftkey doesn’t swipe! xD

      1. Oh shiznit. I was thinking of SlideIT. Damn I am just an irrelevant boob.

        …Back to the basement.

  8. Tried just about every keyboard under the sun. Until recently my preferred option was the ICS keyboard, but I think this is better. I don’t care much for the predictions, but the autocorrect is IMO better than any other (I’m guessing the predictions actually influence the autocorrect).

I sorta miss the punctuation bar from ICS, but swiftkey still edges it for me.

This will probably be the first keyboard I pay for when it’s released.

  9. Coming from Swiftkey X which I enjoyed very much, I think I like 3 more. The biggest thing for me is the addition of more theme’s

  10. The “what’s New” pop up was getting really annoying. Other than that, this keyboard is the best out there.

  11. So do I download this from my phone’s browser??

    1. that or download to your computer and drag and drop it. I do this to keep a copy any and usually bluetooth it to my phone.
