Motorola Droid X “Soak” Test Starts Tonight, Gingerbread Coming to Limited Users

19

It turns out the announcement that the Gingerbread update for the Motorola Droid X won’t begin rolling out to all users today, after all. Word has come in that tonight the “soak test” we caught wind of earlier in the week will begin rolling out to select members of the Motorola support forums. Chances are that the soak will be the initial wave of the update, and if all things go well all users will start to see the update following shortly.

The update won’t be pushed until late tonight, so many may not find it on their phones until morning. Rooted users will have to go back to your standard signed Droid X software.

  1. Do you think we’ll be seeing it by tomorrow for everybody?

    1. 5 more days

      1. Nobody knows if that’s just the manual install or OTA AND manual.

        1. Woke up this morning to the update. I am not a member of any moto forum. I have noticed a few glitches though. My wife also has an X but she did not get the update.

          1. I just manually did the update. Did the whole about phone and checked for update and BAM! It started downloading.

          2. I also got the upgrade this morning! What glitches are you referring to?

      2. That’s what folks have been saying for far too long.

  2. @010ce218638fb5427c3caa5b8f05001e:disqus Like the Droid Incredible I think it will go out in steady waves over a few days. I could be wrong but just my $0.02

    1. In other words, starting tonight and continuing through tomorrow? Or the soak tonight and starting again in a few days?

      1. I would think the soak is tonight, the rest will see it by the end of next week at the latest (coming in small waves from now until June 5ish).  Just a guess.

        1. UGH! I wanted this today haha

  3. I’ll belive it when I see it. I’m really starting to regret buying the droid x with the extreamly locked down boot loader and complete lack of updates. I’m to the point where I can’t wait until the end of my contract to get a nexus s phone to run a standard version of android instead of the advertisement filled android version from verizion. I already pay for my service … why should I be locked into having to run their extra stuff too.

    1. Do some research next time?

And as for “advertisement filled android version from verizion.” …exactly how? A few extra apps you can either simply ignore or remove with root…that’s advertisement filled? Get a grip.

  4. What about droid2

  5. I am a convert ( from Iphone to Android community :D )Nice wallpapers for smartphone here. Loving Samsung  Galaxy SII http://downloadandroidwallpaper.com

    1. Your you gonna remind in every thread?

  6. Got it. Bricked my phone, reflashed to 2.2.340, reflashed to 2.3.3 everything good.

  7. What does this mean?

“Rooted users will have to go back to your standard signed Droid X software”
Does this mean the update will make my phone “go back to the signed Droid X software” or do I have to manually “go back” before the update will hit my device?

Also, are there any differences between the leaked DX 2.3.3 and this official update?

  8. “Chances are that the soak will be the initial wave of the update, and if
all things go well all users will start to see the update following
    shortly.”

Man, was this ever not the case. There were (and are) major (and minor) issues in the soak test, but it was rolled out anyway, with no fix (fixes) in sight!

    Yecchhhh!
