DroidX

Following up on our post from earlier revealing the final name of the Droid X by Motorola we have a series of internal screen shots that confirm much of what we have heard about the device without spoiling too much of the mystery. As expected the Droid X will be a dual-band 1xEVDO handset headed for Verizon. Also confirmed is the 4.3-inch, 480×854 resolution display.

For the first time we are getting some clear info on the size and heft of this monster phone. The phone is sitting thin at 0.39-inches thick, 2.5-inches wide and 5.01-inches tall, and a decent 5.47 ounces. One intriguing bit of information that we are not quite sure how to read is a software listing for Safari browser version 4.0. It is most likely a case of mistaken WebKit browser identity, and if it isn’t we’re not even willing to speculate.

  1. Wow this exclusive is hot! (not) haha EPIC FAIL

  2. That’s what I’m talkin bout phandroid hot with the android news that’s y ur my homepage on my phone laptop and desktop

  3. Any word on when this will hit? I wish that Verizon or whoever, could give some confirmed dates on when they think some devices might be coming to market. I for one am not waiting for the ‘next best thing’… it seems like you’ll always be waiting then, its just nice to work my finances around in order to save up for one of these devices.

  4. Navigation key QWERTY? Does that mean slide out?

  5. now all we need is this release date

  6. As for Safari 4, that’s probably just auto filled in since the browser reports as: AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17
from the user agent to websites.

  7. I’m very curious if it has a keyboard too, there are too many mixed sources and phone names. I’m dying for a high-end Android phone with a large screen and physical keyboard(especially for games).
If they could also throw in a +1ghz+ cpu, 8mp camera with Xenon flash, HDMI out, FM receiver and 1700+ma battery that doesn’t die in 5 mins that would be nice too ;) Ohh what a fine balance these guys have to figure out for power consumption. Let’s just roll out the solar recharging screens already…gawd!!

  8. @Hampteezy – what a polite comment coming from someone linking to their gaming site about bible study lolol that’s nubtastic! http://gamingbygrace.com/about_us.php

  9. I had the HTC Incredible and just returned it for this phone. I cant wait till it comes out. Moto makes great quality phones. HTC takes forever to upgrade there phones and the roots get released way to slow for HTC.

  10. About the Safari 4…

i Still think the OS will be Android.

  11. Lol Rob…yeah this sounds like the phone for me call z way a. Love the screen size. Hope you guys can find out what kind of keyboard it has. Also hope you will soon find out about the processor…not long ago I believe it was stated to have two processors…

  12. Im not sure what QWERTY means either but most likely not a keyboard considering that the Droid 2 has one, but who knows lol.

  13. @Mensah
This phone doesn’t have a keyboard… just touchscreen only and the processor is suppose to be a OMAP3630.

  14. Under navigation key it says QWERTY. Could that mean it has a keyboard. It would make the look of the top-front of the device make sense.

  15. Lol. Hampteezy is a fag

  16. Looks like it’s a qwerty after all. According to this anyway. Good!

  17. It has a virtual keyboard, not a physical keyboard. For crying out loud people… it’s only 3/8 of an inch thick. Use your brain. If you want a keyboard go for the Droid 2.

  18. Idk what the qwerty thing means but I doubt this phone has a hardware keyboard….although I wish it did, id get it in a sec! Doubt we’ll ever see 1 of these 4.3 inchers with a keyboard, or at least not for a while

  19. Cool Zach I hope you are right because I think that this phone may be to big to have a qwerty-however it would be nice to see what it would look like for a big screen cellphone monster like this to have one someday-a and I sureeee hope 2.2 is on this when it comes out-sure seems like it should be y0

  20. Front facing camera???

  21. we have been seeing on howard forums that it is 4.1″ screen for the longest time. These are the guys that put out the leaks in the past (besides gizmoto). Can any one confirm that 4.3 is true. It would be a big thumbs up for me!

  22. @ who knows?

  23. Just submitted my review in of Opera Mini 5 beta for the competition.

Title: The speed of this browser will ultimately triumph!Check it out and please THUMBS UP ya’ll!: )

  24. whats the size and wieght of the evo? itd be the beste for comparison and i got to admit im too lazy to look it up for myself …

  25. Thicker then the Motorola Droid by just over a millimeter, which I think would just be the bulge where the camera is, but if I’m wrong and the hardware is changed from previous pics I’ve seen, there could very well be a keyboard. Although I reckon it just means on screen qwerty….

  26. Motorola Droid = 115.8 x 60 x 13.7
    HTC EVO = 121.9 x 66 x 12.7
    Moto Droid X = 127.3 x 63.5 x 15

Pretty sure these figures are correct.
    All in millimeters.

  27. thx a lot – now i can imagine the size, must be pretty chubby xD

  28. To everyone curious about what the QWERTY part, that doesn’t mean it has a physical keyboard.

On screen keyboards are also considered QWERTY. So don’t get your hopes up.

However, this thing is THICKER than the droid in every aspect, so could it have a keyboard!???? I HOPE SO!!! But it could also just be a bigger battery. Either way, as much as I love a physical keyboard, the Droid 2 was a major disappointment. It’s nothing more than a revamped Droid, I was hoping for some 4.3 inch goodness.

I tried the Evo, that screen is the shit. I did think the battery sucked, and I hate anything other than Vanilla Android. Now my next phone must have at least 4.1 inch screen.

  29. Jimmy,

Going by the numbers in the pics above, the Droid X is the same thickness as the Samsung Galaxy S (9.9 mm). It’s also just .9 mm thicker than the iPhone 4

    Moto Droid X: 5.01 x 2.01 x 0.39 inches (127.3 x 63.5 x 9.9 mm)

    Moto Droid: 4.56 x 2.36 x 0.54 inches (115.8 x 60 x 13.7 mm)

    HTC EVO: 4.80 x 2.60 x 0.50 inches (122 x 66 x 13 mm)

    HTC Incredible: 4.63 x 2.30 x 0.47 inches (117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9 mm)

    HTC Nexus One: 4.69 x 2.35 x 0.45 inches (119 x 59.8 x 11.5 mm)

    Samsung Galaxy S: 4.82 x 2.53 x 0.39 inches (122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm)

  30. Wes,

Yes, your figures are correct, I don’t know how I pulled the 14mm thickness for droid x….. =/

    No physical qwerty then. =(

  31. 15mm sorry.

    Wow. I’m on a roll today…. haha

  32. Wes, Droid X is 2.51 wide and @ 5 inches its the tallest phone in the lot(Taller than Evo)

Is the Droid1 really the shortest phone out of this bunch?

    Moto Droid X……..: 5.01 x 2.51 x 0.39 inches (127.3 x 63.5 x 9.9 mm)
    Moto Droid………..: 4.56 x 2.36 x 0.54 inches (115.8 x 60 x 13.7 mm)
    HTC EVO……………: 4.80 x 2.60 x 0.50 inches (122 x 66 x 13 mm)
    HTC Incredible……: 4.63 x 2.30 x 0.47 inches (117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9 mm)
    HTC Nexus One….: 4.69 x 2.35 x 0.45 inches (119 x 59.8 x 11.5 mm)
    Samsung Galaxy S: 4.82 x 2.53 x 0.39 inches (122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm)

  33. 0.39″ = no physical keyboard = Moto’s answer to HTC Inc.

  34. QWERTY is simply the layout of the keyboard… look at the top left side of any computer keyboard… see the letters Q.W.E.R.T.Y? I am excited fro Christmas time already! Just read an article about the possibility of a droid with a 2 GHz proc and HD resolution.

    http://www.conceivablytech.com/1231/products/motorola-responds-to-the-iphone-4-a-2-ghz-android-phone/

  35. Will be an interesting experiment in determining the optimal size and heft of these smartphones, wonder which will emerge as a leader. I suspect the Evo is at the limit f what will be tolerated by consumers.

  36. Check it out. This is the first time I have seen this. Look at the second search result. Google apparently cached specs which were posted on the Verizon Droid site at some point. It says that the Droid X will have a 1GHz processor:

    http://www.google.com/m?q=verizon+droid+x

  37. Great phone. Wish it didn’t have a locked boot-loader though.

  38. I’m very curious if it has a keyboard too, there are too many mixed sources and phone names. I’m dying for a high-end Android phone with a large screen and physical keyboard(especially for games).
