Acer beTouch E130: the “Android Blackberry” [Video]

18

ARMdevices describes Acer’s latest Android device beautifully: this thing simply looks like a traditional Blackberry that’s running Android. The Acer beTouch E130 was shown by the company at Computex and they ponied up some initial details to whet our appetite with.

It’ll be equpped with a 2.6-inch QVGA touchscreen display, an optical trackpad and a fully-exposed QWERTY keyboard. It features North American 3G bands (850/1900), 256MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, and an ST Ericsson CPU running at 416Mhz. The phone runs the dated Android 1.6, however, which I’m sure would be a dealbreaker for some who identify with this form factor.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Hopefully the Gods will listen to my plea. For the love of all that is good and right that’s left in this world, PLEASE don’t let this abomination ever come to fruition.

  2. Better specs and I’ll buy it.

Darkseider, you don’t have to buy it. Why does it bother you so?

    They need an “Android Blackberry”

  3. As much as I like the other touchscreen form factors, I think it is a good idea to penetrate the corporate world with those Blackberry liking generation…. For example my boss would never be comfortable using touchscreen only phones…. I hope this attracts more customers with all the enhancements that are on the way with Android!!!

  4. I like the form factor, but it needs much better specs i.e. bigger screen, faster CPU, more RAM and a newer Android. Other than that…

  5. kill the unholy abomination with fire.

  6. They are “dumbing it down” to appear Blackberry-like with the outdated OS.

  7. Actually doesn’t look that bad imo. I say lose the trackpad and expand the screen, also add some more power (2.2) and you have a winner.

  8. I personally would never buy one but I do see a market for a phone of that style it just needs better specs.

  9. 2.2 FroYo, and with a 16:10 2.8″ screen and I might bite.

  10. @C
Darkseider does not live in the real world.

  11. How nice, a small screen and a crappy keyboard, when a slider would have given better of both.

  12. What is up with acer?? Dated OS’s and crappy specks. What the heck?

  13. Not bad… i’d consider it for my wife if it was 2.1 with the voice dictation.

  14. remind me about Kogan Agora

  15. Ya, why make a blackberry form factor for android? It’s only the most popular smartphone in the world, but that’s only because of the email right? Nothing to do with form factor. What we really need is another slider…

To the bb haters: bb owns the enterprise, it’ll be years before apple, google or winmo can penetrate that space. What won’t take years though is for bb to release OS6, then all you big spenders will be confused again because now it has a browser. In the end it’ll come down to price because let’s face it, you need a phone while you’re holding out for that newer and better phone that’s just around the corner!

  16. mindo-Bes may run the corporate sector for phones. But if you read up on the web you will find that google is working on an enterprise model to control the phones. When this comes out how can you say its going to take years to penetrate? When android has already surpassed apple in sales and is right below bb. Once the enterprise server for android is released bb is going to have a tough time being in the lead. I dont think people just want a browser on their bb that works. Maybe a phone that does alot more and an app market to go with that. Rim doesnt have a good marketplace for apps. They only lead because of the BES server in the corporate world that will change

  17. It’s a damn good idea to have a touchscreen + physical QWERTY Android device, but that demo model is ugly as shit. No one will buy the phone if the final model looks like that.

If the phone looks better, I can think of several professionals who would like to have it.

  18. So beatyful!
