By A few days ago, we reported on an internal FAQ screen that showed Qik could be charging an extra $5 to use video chatting capabilities on the HTC EVO 4G with Sprint. It seems that the FAQ has been misinterpreted, though, as Qik chimed in to let us know that the charge was optional to enable premium features for whoever wants them.
“the core features of 2-way video chat and live video sharing from phone to phones, web, desktop will be FREE. What we’ll be rolling out are optional premium features that users can subscribe to.”
As it stands, the “core” functionality of Qik remains free: phone-to-phone video chatting, streaming, and the other features you’ve come to know and love with Qik are all covered here. Now all that’s left is to see if those premium features will turn out to be worth $5 a month when they detail what they are June 4th.

I’m guessing the premium features include web to phone… as that would likely make sense for them to charge.
“Web to phone”, if you mean PC to mobile, that feature is included with the free version. That feature is not limited to the app(s), there is a demo using Fring, a call is made from the PC using skype to the EVO running Fring. Two-way calling, mobile to mobile, PC to mobile and mobile to PC are core features of the EVO.

Monthly Charges always put a bad taste in a consumers mouth. Better to go low rate yearly have more low paying customers then less monthly paying customers
My guess; “premium features” are no pop up adds blocking half your video feed.
I will preorder my EVO 4G tomorrow , I wanted the Tmobile HD2 but had a change of carrier heart when i saw this young girl.
Phone to phone video chat sounds cool, but every phone I’ve ever owned has the camera on the back and screen on the front. I can’t look at both of them at the same time.
The Sprint Evo 4G has a front facing camera that makes t possible to do video chat.
