Motorola Droid Ad Hits Phandroid.com!

18

Try as we may, we could not force Google to spit out the advertisement which confirms the Motorola Droid will begin selling November 6th. But there is a consolation prize: I load up Phandroid a couple seconds ago and who is advertising? None other than Verizon Wireless with an animated flash/video spot for the “Droid Does” campaign:

I thought that was a nice little symbolic turning point to convert our Motorola Sholes Guide and Motorola Sholes Forum to the Motorola Droid Guide and Motorola Droid Forum. As you can see the former now 301 redirect to the latter. If you were wondering where the Sholes stuff went… now you know.

This makes me a TAD bit nervous because deep down I feel like perhaps this is a hasty decision. Probably not… but maybe. There has been a lot of evidence suggesting the Sholes will be called the Motorola Droid but one possibility has me on edge. What if Verizon Wireless also plans on launching their “Hero” and maybe another Android device and is using the “Droid Does” campaign as a general marketing campaign for all their android handsets?

Time will tell… and considering I will 100% be buying the Motorola Droid, time cannot tell fast enough. And by the way, big thanks to Verizon Wireless and Motorola for seeing the value in advertising on Phandroid – enjoy the gazillions of visitors we’ll inevitably be sending you.

Have you seen the ad on Phandroid? Do you like it? I think they did a brilliant job of capturing the feeling/essence of their commercial and stuffing it into a 728×90 banner – how about you? Don’t forget… if the comments aren’t enough discussion to suit your style you can talk to thousands of Android enthusiasts in the Motorola Droid Forum!

  1. It is very nice but I will stick to my G1. It’s rooted and I have a hero Rom and it going smooth and fast so I don’t think I will change unless it is like super cool

Written with a rooted G1 with hero

  2. nearly every image here is broken to me… :(

  3. MOTODROID does, they can do it again

  4. Rob, the pictures are still not displaying the majority of the time I check the site. Just FYI.

  5. Hi from France !
Rob, I do confirm that picture links don’t work in many stories. ^^/
Thanks for your great daily job, anyway.

  6. Why are all the image(s) broken???

  7. Motorola owns motoroladroid.com. Motorola.com/droid redirects to motorola.com. The DROIDDOES campaign states specifically that droid does have a keyboard. When the phone boots, it not only spells out Droid, but it also says Droid. Rest easy. I cannot imaging DROID being anything but phone specific.

I’ll look for the ad on the site. I just keep seeing those “YOU” ads, which I assume are Yahoo’s “YOU” campaign.

  8. @Jacqueline – the “YOU” campaign is actually HTC. Its an interesting campaign and identifies why the phone is all about what YOU want. I think the problem is TOO many campaigns are headed that direction it just gets lost in the mix.

  9. Banner looks great! But I don’t expect anything less from the companies that have the foresight to put their weight behind Android and run with it. More companies (with strategic planning) should do the same thing.

  10. If you of the Droid ad link, there is a countdown that seems to be counting down to midnight, October 30…w00t!

  11. can’t see the image but did anyone else see the Droid Commercial on Fox last night? Awesome!

  12. I don’t think this posted the first time so I will try it again. I apologize if I am doubling up. When you go to droiddoes.com check out the link you are redirected to. It actually says “…/motorola/droid/…” in the link.
    .
This is a clear indicator that this ad is for the Motorola phone and not a generic ad for Verizon Android phones.

  13. The TV Commercial was better than the YouTube version I saw at 2 AM the night of droids release. I am so happy!

  14. they are getting some attention with this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPYM-XTqcec

    400k views already

  15. it seems to be missing compass.

  16. if you reload a cnet page over and over you will eventually get a banner ad that says “droiddoes

11.06.09” i posted a tinyurl to the actual ad on bgr, but for some reason they deleted the post, those b*stards!
