HTC Hero with HTC Sense Announced!

18

HTC has just announced the HTC Hero – the first of a line of products that will have HTC Sense – a customized User Interface for Android that the company claims will take the platform to new heights. And I don’t doubt it.

While most of our talk on Phandroid about carrier/manufacturer customization of Android has been negative in scope –  ie suffocating features in favor of proprietary services – you can likely look at HTC as 3rd party Android Developer bringing a new experience entirely to the platform. Some might like to say a Rosie experience if you know what I mean.

  1. I’m really glad it has a 3.5mm jack and a trackball.
Forget that Huawei phone, this is what I want.
And I really don’t mind the wait. I still really like my G1.

  2. What exactly is the news? Isn’t this almost exactly the same as the Magic? Same processor at same speed, same size, same screen, same OS, same battery, some weight increase, toy cam with no flash… The only news is slightly more RAM, and a slightly better camera.

I don’t know why they bothered. They could just push their OS improvements onto the Magic and bring out more case colors.

  3. This is the Android non-event of the year. Where exactly are the news?

  6. Go check out the video on the HTC Hero.. Now, I think I might just skip on the MyTouch and wait for that now. zz

  7. looking at the specification of both magic and the hero, they are definately identical in terms of ROM/RAM and Processor. Rili hope the sense would be as fluent and speedy as in their promo video and most importantly…available for the Magic.

Anyone can confirm on this pls?

  9. What about the Lancaster? Did they mention it?

    Thanks and greets!

  10. *Not trying to be a hater* This U/I looks amazing. But does anyone else find it a bit odd that the specs that we have seen so far only have this supporting EDGE/GPRS here in the states? With as much ‘awesome’ as this phone seems to have, It seems that it would at least be 3G? Or am I just missing something here?

  11. @ cam.shaft

That’s what I wanna know also. Will the Magic be able to get the same interface?

  12. Nevermind… just saw the full range for the specs… Now, I will be jumping to any carrier that has this phone stateside!

It is 3G Rob. Check out the specification at http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/specification.html

    HSDPA downlink @ 7.2mbps and HSUPA upload @ 2.0mbps

I think the only grudge for me is…no 3G camera =/

  14. The chin, the chin, why o why the chin. It’s a beast. However, the UI looks totally amazing. If they can put that on the i7500 I would willing dive headlong into Android and wallow in techno smugness.

  15. @cam.shaft… thanks, I realized my error the moment I posted, only saw half the specs. I need some more sleep today. I’m excited for this phone, my contract is up in early sept. So as much as I love sprint (I know, odd…). I’ll be jumping to whoever brings this phone stateside.

  16. @ Rob… no prob. realised ur post after posting mine. =)

Im in Asia, and the HTC Magic here is brought in by a crappy provider and the price is crazy =_=. I’d have to cross border to get mine.

I jus love the Sense UI.

  17. any *idea* of a T-Mobile US release date? I HATE AT&T and this phone would get me back to T-Mo is a heartbeat!
