The folks behind the NitDroid project are not sleeping when it comes to getting Android (2.2, specifically) up and running on one of Nokia’s latest products: the N900. The last time we saw it, they hadn’t quite optimized the port for performance and there were many connectivity features not working. As you begin to watch the video below, the first noise you’ll hear emitting from the phone is that beautiful wireless signal feedback you get when cellular data and voice is coming in near a speaker.
Latest developments – if you haven’t watched the video or figured it out by now – gives the ability to make and receive calls as well as send and receive packets of data over the cellular network. Things still aren’t perfect, but you might be the type of person who likes to follow development like this (or you can’t stand Maemo and are rooting for this project each and every day). If so, be sure to bookmark the NITDroid project page today.

Thats cool but I don’t approve of Nokia anymore ever since they were trying to sell their N97 for $1,200. My cousin almost bought that epic fail of a phone but instead I sold him my G1 for $100 and he’s been an Android fanboy ever since. Now we both have Nexus Ones and for the first time in like 5 years he doesn’t want to buy a new phone every 3 yes 3 months. I guess thats the power of Android.
The N900 seems to be even slower than my G1.
