It was speculated that at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event that the company could be planning on unveiling a 5G version of its Galaxy Z Flip handset. It turns out that Samsung couldn’t wait for the event because the company has since officially announced the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.
The handset, for the most part in terms of design and hardware, remains largely unchanged, but there will be one notable difference between this and the non-5G model, and it is its chipset. The Galaxy Z Flip, for those unfamiliar, launched earlier this year packing last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset.
The 5G version has since been upgraded to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. While the rest of the phone is still more or less the same, this is actually a pretty big deal. Given the price of the phone, having a newer and more powerful chipset along with support for 5G makes it a much more viable handset for 2020 and slightly more justifiable.
The price of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G also doesn’t seem to be that much more than its predecessor, where it will be priced at $1,449.99. The non-5G version was launched priced at $1,380, so the increase of $70 seems like a pretty OK price to pay for newer and more modern hardware and also 5G support. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be available for purchase on the 7th of August.
