Android Auto in the car is great, but there’s one issue: a lot of people aren’t going to go out and buy new cars or in-dash configurations just to get it. Well, not anymore — Google has announced Android Auto for phones.
It’s as you’d expect: you get a phone experience that delivers only the information that’s relevant to a commute, and little else. The point of Android Auto is to give you music controls, navigation, and incoming notification messages (with voice-activated responses) without having to spend too much time fiddling around with a complicated UI. This, in turn, makes it safer to use your phone in the car as both your hands will almost always want to be on the wheel.
Android Auto can be used on any android 5.0 or higher device, and Google says it’ll be rolling out in the coming days for folks currently situated in any of the 30+ countries Android Auto is currently deployed. Sign up here to get notified.
