By Remember a while back we told you ZTE was looking for winning ideas for implementation in a future smartphone? That endeavor was known as Project CSX, and they’d promised that one winner would not only see their grand idea implemented in a smartphone, but also win the phone and other goodies for their troubles.
The design is striking, at least.
So, what was the big winning idea? A phone with an adhesive back! Its purpose? To stick itself onto a wall. Yup. Apparently, that particular feature is being added to complement another, which is a dual-camera setup which would allow for advanced eye tracking to let you automatically scroll a page when your eyes reach the bottom.
The idea here is that the phone will more easily track your eyes when it’s propped up on a wall as there’s a degree of guarantee that it will properly track your eye without any sudden movements. Of course, this use-case scenario sounds very niche, so ZTE will have to find a way to make eye-tracking work better in any scenario you’d want to use it.
Beyond that, the company gave a rough outline of the sort of internals we’re to see:
- Display: 5.5’ LCD 1440 x 2560 (~534 ppi pixel density)
- Fingerprint: Side fingerprint reader on the power button
- Chipset: CPU Snapdragon 823 or the latest
- RAM: 4 or 6 GB
- Memory: 64 or 128 GB
- Primary Camera: 16 MP, f/1.8, 26mm, OIS, laser autofocus, dual-LED flash
- Front-facing Camera: 8 MP, f/1.8, 23mm, OIS, autofocus, 1.34 µm pixel size, 1080p, HDR
- Battery: 3500 – 4000 mAh
The device looks interesting, for sure, but we’re still not sure when we’re to expect its arrival. ZTE does have an event coming up October 27th, but we’re not going to bet on Project CSX being launched there as the company still seems to be in the early planning phases for now. Instead, they’re said to be bringing the Max version of the ZTE Axon 7. Stay tuned.
