An update to Pokemon Go is now available in the Google Play Store. The much needed update brings fixes for a number of issues, but those hoping for the return of some sort of Pokemon tracker, will be sadly disappointed. That’s not to say the latest version of the app — v0.33 — isn’t addressing some pretty major bugs. Here are the full release notes:
- Added a dialog to remind Trainers that they should not play while traveling above a certain speed. Trainers must confirm they are not driving in order to continue playing.
- Made improvements to the accuracy of a curveball throw.
- Fixed a bug that prevented ”Nice,” ”Great,” and “Excellent” Poké Ball throws from awarding the appropriate XP bonuses.
- Fixed achievements showing incorrect Medal icons.
- Enabled the ability for Trainers to change their nickname one time. Please choose your new nickname wisely.
- Resolved issues with the battery saver mode on iOS and re-enabled the feature.
- Added visuals of Team Leaders Candela, Blanche, and Spark.
- We’re currently testing a variation of the “Nearby Pokémon” feature with a subset of users. During this period you may see some variation in the nearby Pokémon UI.
- Minor text fixes
It appears Niantic is taking these safety warnings even more serious than they were previously, likely due to the attention given to off-shoot news articles like car crashes or other mishaps people are getting themselves into while playing the game. I guess people need in-app warnings to prevent them from hurting themselves or others, or it’s just Niantic’s way of covering their ass. In either case, expect more warnings and possibly other small tweaks to prevent people from playing while driving.
You’ll also notice that Nearby has officially been renamed “Sightings” making us wonder if the original feature will ever make a return to the game. While being able to change our username is a welcomed addition, we would have much rather have been given the opportunity for a 1-time team color change. How about you? Any changes you guys want to see in the next update?
