Generally when devices pass through the FCC they don’t reveal much. Sure we can occasionally get a few dimensions and/or radio bands, but they typically reveal little else. When it comes to an upcoming wireless charger made by Motorola — which made a pit stop by the FCC — the Commission may have revealed a hardware feature Motorola was hoping to keep secret for the Moto 360: Qi wireless charging.
According to the paperwork uncovered by Liliputing, the Motorola SPN5845A Wireless Charger is designed for use on the Motorola Moto 360, and supports the Wireless Power Consortium protocol (Qi). It’s unclear whether or not any Qi-enabled wireless charger will work with the smartwatch, or if Motorola has designed a charger/dock especially for the 360. Also, we’re hoping a more traditional USB method is also present for those times when a wireless charging pad aren’t accessible.
Update: It appears that this latest finding, while new to us, may have been revealed in an earlier statement from Motorola Program Manager Philip Worth whom allegedly told TechRadar the Moto 360 would come with wireless induction charging. This latest FCC finding now confirms that earlier statement.
We expect to learn more about Motorola’s Moto 360 sometime this week, if not at Google I/O with a formal introduction to Android Wear, than perhaps at a separate event/press release. We’ll keep you posted.
That’s a big plus, since I would hate to plug in a relatively small watch.
I want the 360 soooooooooo bad right now. I hope google reveals this at i/o
Let’s talk about apps first
Potato skins
Chips and Salsa
Guacamole
Nets suck, Yankees suck, Knicks suck.
It just keeps getting hotter and hotter.
What’s the normal charge on it, anyone know? I have enough stuff that needs to be plugged in/put on a charge every day. It’s the biggest reason I’ve stuck to the Pebble for now.
this watch is going to be in the I/O goody bags no doubt
It’s going to be the LG watch that’s given away.
Wow, having wireless charging is a big plus on wearing devices.
Yep this seemed pretty obvious back when they said you don’t plug it into to charge it. Looking forward to a full reveal on this… hopefully at I/O.
I completely forgot about this feature. SOLD!
I have a bunch of qi chargers already, so if this is true, this will be a bonus for sure. Now, what I’m most curious about is, what does the Moto 360’s Qi charger look like and, will it be in a form factor that might work with phone charging…hmmm.
TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

It’s nice that you don’t have to plug it in, but really killer is only if it’ll charge while it’s still on your wrist and the charger is in the vicinity (say, on the nightstand). So you never have to even worry about remembering to put it on the charger. What’s the actual useful range on these things?
Not far at all unless you want a giant transformer on your nightstand and a really high electric bill. It’ll probably be a pad you lay it on, or they may have a fancy design that may wrap around or something, who knows
Up to 40mm. But typically about 5mm.
Yea, you should invest in a night stand. I have this stand near my bed. I rest my phone, wallet and TV remote there. It’s more convenient then I thought it would be. I could easily place a charging pad there. I would place the watch there at night anyways, so it’ll be easy to remember to charge it.
I hope for Motorola’s sake this is a home run! Keeps looking like it will be.
Does it support qi charging? And how to get it charge? Just lay it on the charger like we do with Nexus 5?
Well played, Moto. This could be very successful
Frankly, wireless charging is expected on wearables. Nobody wants another device to plug in at night. Imagine going to sleep every night plugging in your phone, tablet, laptop, smart watch, glasses, portable battery bank, camera… wireless charging is the way to go.
Now I just a nightstand in which the entire top surface is one big Qi charger.
What do you mean “imagine”? =.[
I was hoping for a combination of Qi and kinetic charging, so that it gets some charge just while walking around. Moto claimed they have some super-special charging method for the 360. Qi is great, but nothing new or special.
