With over a week to go until Black Friday, you can bet carriers and retailers are already finalizing their sales and ads for the big shopping day. Verizon is one such company, with the carrier planning to put various smartphones and accessories on sale.
Not all of these deals are going to blow your mind. In fact, most of these deals can be had from various places throughout the year, including from Verizon themselves. Here’s the full list of Android smartphones and tablets they’re advertising:

Of course, all of these deals will bind you to a new two-year contract or will require you to enter an Edge agreement to pay the smartphone off in as much as 24 months’ time (options to upgrade after six months to a year are available).
Accessories deals aren’t mind-blowing either, but they’re there for those who need some new headphones or wireless speakers to jam Christmas tunes with throughout the holiday season. They also have great deals on 4G wireless hotspots. Here’s the full list:

Just like you mention in the article, you can find better prices for these same device at other stores. Vzw didn’t even try to compete with the pricing that others are offering these same devices.
Most of my friends and family still buy the $30 cell phone car chargers from Verizon. You are posting on an Android fan-site and are in a different category than most people. VZW knows that these items will sell and their stores will be packed.
I actually heard Verizon was going to reduce everyone’s data, extend their contracts and raise their rates by 10% on black Friday. It’s OK though, after they do it, they will explain exactly why it’s better for all their customers. Stand by…

Verizon is a very anti-consumer company and for that they get none of my money.
Well sadly if you have any other phone company where I live, other than VZ, you do not get any type of reliable service. If you look at Verizon’s coverage map compared to other carriers I’m sure there are millions of people like me. An unfortunate reality.
There might be millions, but that is still a very low percentage of folks. Out of the ~318 million Americans the vast majority are covered by at least 2 of the other 3 carriers. That is because the places where most people live are well covered.

My choices are Verizon and ATT, both of which have absurdly expensive shared monthly plans. T-mobile is non-existent (despite the coverage map showing “4G LTE” in my area), and Sprint is a joke. Aio Wireless is out, because I like being able to use 4G; Straight Talk is a ripoff with abysmal customer service; and GoPhone will get expensive real quick for the amount of data I use a month. So I can either stay on Verizon in a grandfathered unlimited plan and have great coverage everywhere I go (and deal with not having a Nexus or other GSM phone), or take my chances elsewhere.
AIO has LTE. Since June.

these ARE the deals we are having… worst part is we employees have to work fro 5:30am to 9:30PM that day….. because Verizon thinks EVERYBODY wants this crap
I wouldn’t be surprised if your store is busy all day. I went to a Verizon store with my wife on some random Sunday afternoon in September to get her a new phone, and the place was absolutely packed. It wasn’t even the first weekend of the new iPhones. It was ridiculous.
Correct. Most people are not interested in the bleeding edge of cell phone technology (99% of population) and are not aware of the shenanigans that Verizon pulls. Most of my friends and family think Verizon is the best carrier around. They have no idea about phones that never see daylight on Verizon shelves and probably don’t care. They don’t know that their phone doesn’t have the latest update – and probably don’t care. Verizon is a marking genius with good coverage. I can see through it but 99% cannot.
In most areas of the country, your friends and family are correct in that Verizon is, sadly, the best carrier around. It’s an argument made on this and similar forums time and time again. “If you don’t like Verizon, then switch!” Yeah, I’d really love to, but I also like using my phone as a phone. My wife went from an iPhone 4 to the Droid MAXX and loves it. Is it a bleeding edge phone? No. Does it do what she wants it to do? Absolutely. Does she care that it’s running 4.2.2 and not 4.3 or 4.4? Absolutely not.
I wish I had 4.2.2…Darn Japanese market… :(
you should have went to a target mobile, radio shack, best buy, sams, etc. Better pricing and you wouldnt have had to wade through a packed store.

Phones aren’t a high-margin product to begin with, so not many deals to be had on any newer models in most cases. The exception is when they’re willing to accept a loss on product to lock you into high margin service. Even so, service is getting competitive, too, so margins there aren’t what they once were either.
Old stock they want to clear (RAZR HD) they’ll deal. New stuff, not as much.

I think I might go after the free tablet. It’s not top of the line but still a good option. would be a decent replacement for my wife’s nook tablet. I would love to switch but I travel to much and several of the areas I travel are rural and tmobile/Sprint have horrible coverage. I can only hope the coverage areas get better where I travel.
