Who said the Moto Maker only ever had to be for the Moto X? Motorola is apparently getting ready to jump back into the tablet game after being the very first OEM to release an Android 3.0+ tablet. That much was revealed by CEO Dennis Woodside, who spilled the beans to the folks at Engadget.

Woodside didn’t have much else to say, of course, but he did leave open the possibility that the Moto Maker could eventually be used to customize this yet-to-be-realized tablet, noting that customization is the way of the future.

There’s no doubt Motorola has some genius engineers in a research and development lab somewhere cooking up the next American-made wonder for the mobile world, and we’ll be front and center to see what’s in store for us whenever they’re ready to unveil it. In the meantime, let us know if you’d buy a Motorola tablet that could be customized through the Moto Maker in the comments section below.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. man I hope they make a 8 or 9″ version. I might have to hold out on getting the lg g pad if their tablet is 8″.

Look, the whole moto maker idea is pretty sweet, but please don’t forget about actual innovation, k? Just a friendly request, thanks.

    1. I want customization. Give me a 64 gb with stylus and a 9300 mah battery.

No? But I can get it in wood?

      1. OMG if it did come in wood wouldn’t that be amazing?

      2. “In the future, people are going to want to configure with apps, they’re going to want to configure with software, memory size — maybe in the future even screen size… [and] even processor speed.” – Motorola

        1. In the future? We should have had that a long time ago.

          1. although i would have liked that as well, it seems like it might have been difficult to implement

    2. For me, that’s a good for people who does not use cases.

  5. Finally, something to replace my Xoom.

  6. Great! another US only device by Moto.

    1. This is so American that it comes with
      Apple pie
      Texas BBQ brisket
      Chicago pan pizza
      Kentucky fried chicken
      Louisiana gumbo
      and a Vermont teddy bear

  7. When thinking customization, remember that they can only build with parts on hand, and will only stocks parts that have sufficient sales potential to justify it. They’re limited by physical constraints, too. Casings are easy. Memory should not be a problem. Battery is trickier because of size differences. Processors are not likely because they have technical issues that could require a different system board for each version.

In time, they might be able to broaden the parameters of what they can customize, but for now, keep expectations within the bounds of the practical.

  8. I hope the Moto Maker for that Moto X Tablet is outside the AT&T exclusives.

  9. Sorry I gotta go with the surface pro. All other tablets are just big phones that you can’t make a call on.

    1. I’m waiting for the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.

    2. Wait, Surface is still around? By the way, what is Windows besides something I can see out of?

      1. I usually associate Windows with something you crash out of

  10. I remember them hinting at a tablet way back when the first leaks popped up

  11. Coming from a tech site I expect more from the article titles. Unless this tablet truely is “Made-To-Order”, then please stop using these stupid catch phrases to attract clicks!

Unless its even marginally close to custom laptops or PCs, then its NOT made to order. STOP IT!

  12. I haven’t had a tablet I like just because of build quality. I think Moto is going to solve that problem.

    1. How do you feel about the iPad’s aluminum unibody?

      1. Too brittle and easily scratched.

        1. What I like about scratches on aluminum, is that at least the color doesn’t change. grey on the outside, grey under a scratch.
