There’s a lot of buzz regarding the Nexus 7 — and for good reason — but what about Google’s other Nexus tablet? The 10-inch Nexus 10 was Samsung’s third project under Google’s device program, and now it looks like the South Korean manufacturer might be ready to deliver a fourth.
Wall Street Journal’s Amir Efrati is reporting that we should expect to see the Nexus 10 refreshed this year, and that Samsung would once again make the device. The news apparently comes straight from Android chief Sundar Pichai, so it sounds like a pretty sure bet at this point.
The original Nexus 10 was no slouch. It may have gotten overshadowed by the more comfortable, more affordable Nexus 7, but for those who didn’t mind carrying around a 10-inch slate it was — and still is — one of the best tablets available. The current Nexus 10 looks something like this:
- 10-inch 2560 x 1600 display
- Exynos 5 Dual dual-core processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB or 32GB of internal storage
- 5 megapixel rear camera
- 1.9 megapixel front camera
So you can only imagine how a new Nexus 10 would look. Let’s hope the jump to the refresh will be just as significant as the one from the old Nexus 7 to the new one was. Are you holding out for an eventual release or will you look to go with the latest Nexus 7 instead?
If I buy another tablet it will most likely be a Nexus 10, since the Nexus 7 is too similar to my Note 2 in size. The new tablets by toshiba look pretty good too though, long live competition and choices :)
My thoughts exactly. I have a 7″ Acer tablet but I haven’t used it since I got my Note 2. The screen sizes are so similar that when I think of using my tablet for the bigger screen i think what’s the point. I love my Note 2 so much I don’t even know if I would use a 10″ tablet.
I’ll admit that the 10” is certainly nicer for videos and playing games.
The larger tablets are no good in bed, which is where I use mine the majority of the time, so I don’t think I’ll ever get a 10″.
However, you’re right about 7″ being a little too close in size to the 5.5-ish” phablet size, so, I’ll probably be selling my 7″ tablet once I upgrade my S3 to the Note 3 in a couple months, and then possibly being on the lookout for a 8″ tab.
I don’t understand this sentiment. I use my 10″ tab in bed all the time… reading, watching videos, playing games. No problems.
10″ is just heavier, more unwieldy, and you have to keep it further from your face to take all in
Yeah I get what you’re saying I guess, and obviously to each their own… But at the same time we aren’t talking about a few extra pounds, and I can rest it on my chest and see everything fine.

I have the Nexus 10 and 7 and if I
were to upgrade one of the two it would the Nexus 7 so that I would
have the 2 gig of RAM. My Nexus 10 has a great display and enough power;
so I see no reason to upgrade that tablet at this time.

I use my n10 in bed all the time. It sits and an angle in it’s case (has a kickstand) and we watch netflix on it all the time.

Hmm I own an ip3 and the note 2. I think an 7 inch device fits perfectly in between.
I have a Note 2 but I still prefer to do certain things on my Nexus 7.
I’ve been holding out for a new Nexus 10 upgrade, hopefully to the Snapdragon 800 chipset or newer Exynos I guess. Really just want them to make it faster with faster/better battery charging also. The resolution seems fine to remain. 4k on a 10″ would be overkill I would think. (also considering the 2013 Nexus 7). Infrared remote capabilities would be nice too…didn’t notice if they have it already…

Yeah, only thing that bothers me about the N10 is the having g to reboot it daily. Looks like they fixed the memory leak with the new update but it performs like a Champ otherwise and has pretty awesome battery life
I had the Nexus 7 and sold a month ago knowing the new one was coming out. During my last few months with the device, I started using it less and less, opting to just use my phone since it was always with me, the display size was adequate and frankly the screen was better to look at. I think I’ve finally concluded that the 7″ form factor just isn’t for me. It doesn’t differentiate itself enough from my phone to have different functionality. I’ll be that guy hitting F5 on the Play Store when the New Nexus 10 is announced. Same for the Nexus 5. Sorry wallet. Deal with it.
I would love it if they would incorporate the S-pen into a Nexus 10.
I would buy it then. Since using Note 10.1 I can’t imagine using a tablet without S-Pen. I wrote hundreds of pages of notes on my Note 10.1 at university and tones of sketches and projects (I make games, so I do a lot of level design) at work.
I’m in the process of selling my Nexus 10 in order to acquire one of the new Nexus 7’s. I really like the form factor of the 7″ tablets, plus they are lighter, thus making them easier to carry during a long commute to/from work. 1080p resolution was virtually the only requirement I had and now the new Nexus 7 fulfilled that requirement, so the decision was easy.
I’m with this guy. I like the 7″ size. 10″ is really too big unless you’re gonna put it on your lap or on a table. I always hold my tablet, so 7″ is all for me. The 10″+ are kinda uncomfortably heavy anyways.

It will be between the refreshed Nexus 10 or refreshed Asus Transformer Prime… hmmm
or the Ativ Q, which is known as the worlds fastest android hybrid tablet, or to see what else is coming out.. Nexus 10 might have more bezel, as we’ve seen from the nexus 7.. Also, 3-4gb of RAM is right around the corner as we’re already seeing.. At least the Nexus is google’s flagship device with the latest updates(will be getting KLP or key lime pie soon).
I’m in the market for a new tablet and the new nexus tablets are exactly what I’m looking for! Might just get a 7 and a 10 lol.

yeah, unfortunately it probably won’t have less bezel.. nexus 10 didn’t have much bezel(from actual ownership experience), but as we’ve seen from the latest nexus 7, it might not have less bezel.. I may wait around to see what other tablets are coming out, OR try and eyeball the Ativ Q which at the moment is known as the worlds fastest android hybrid tablet
Samsung’s Nexus 10 is for leaders. Look for it to provide at least 4xHDTV for conferencing downward with field reps or upward with your boss or boss’ boss.
I can probably see myself buying a nexus 10 2.. Stay away from overhyped tegra tablets. I have the tegra 3 transformer prime and its slow compared to the nexus 10(even with all updates). i used to have a nexus 10 and it was awesome.. the screen was amazing, so i cant imagine what a better display would look like. I put the screen to the test with very HD videos.. it felt great to hold, build quality was good in my opinion, despite what websites say. The speed of it was pretty damn good too, even compared to my transformer prime. Also, 3-4gb of mobile ram is just around the corner.. as we already know for sure that 4gb of ram has been announced for an upcoming smartphone(ubuntu edge)..
Love the first N10, one of the few devices I don’t feel the need to upgrade. Sold the N7 immediately after getting the N10.
The Nexus 7 looks tiiinnnyyyy….I didn’t even realize how much so until I saw the unboxing video that Chris did, but holy cow. If I’m going to buy a tablet, it needs to be significantly larger in my hand than the Galaxy Note or even the Galaxy S 3/4… and the size difference between those is not enough.
I’ve seen the reviews online for the current Nexus 10, and holy cow, I don’t know if there’s a single tablet in that price range that comes even close to looking as sexy. So, I really want the Nexus 10 and was going to get it in the next month or two but if a new one is coming out perhaps I should just wait.
One thing I hope the Nexus 10 second gen will have is an SD card slot, I’m going to buy the 32GB edition anyway but it’s a freakin tablet and I already know my boyfriend, our roommate and roommate’s daughter will all want to use it so the space would be nice.
Google does not support SD card slots in their Nexus devices — they have been pretty direct about saying “NOPE, not going to happen” – offering consumers expandable memory through SD cards is apparently too confusing.
According to Matias Duarte, Director of Android operating system User Experience at Google: “Everybody likes the idea of having an SD card, but in reality it’s just confusing for users,” he said. “If you’re saving photos, videos or music, where does it go? Is it on your phone? Or on your card? Should there be a setting? Prompt every time? What happens to the experience when you swap out the card? It’s just too complicated.”

could this be the first 4gb ram tablet?, 4gb is an important landmark, because at that point tablets start to become actual contenders for laptop replacements, true productivity multitasking (lots of tabs lot of documents, spreadsheets) open all at once
$500 is too much for tablet that doesn’t even have content to take advantage of its specs. Id like a 10.1″ tablet to replace my aging Galaxy Tab 10.1 but I don’t want to spend another $500 and get the EXACT same experience.
The screen on the Nexus 10 currently is ass. It had fairly poor viewing angle washout and low contrast and hence poor color as well. Pixels does not a great screen make. The 1200p or 1080p Asus Transformer Infinity screen KILLED it.
Just buy SONY’s Xperia Tablet Z, OMG it’s amazing. Water Proof , decent sound, 10hr battery, calibrated screen, microSD and microHDMI and incredibly thin and light.
