A new, more expensive Kindle could be in the works

0

One of the good things about Amazon’s Kindle e-readers is that they are generally inexpensive. This is because they’re quite basic and straightforward, perfect if all you want to do is read your ebooks on the go. But now according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims Amazon could have a new Kindle in the works that might be its most expensive to date.

The analyst claims that Amazon is working on a new Kindle that could feature a color e-ink display. Amazon’s Kindle lineup uses monochrome e-ink displays. This is because when you’re reading a book, you don’t really need color. Plus black and white e-ink displays are cheaper and they’re great for battery life.

But this report claims that Amazon’s latest Kindle could end up using an Advanced Color ePaper (ACeP) display. We can’t be sure what the costs of the components are, but color e-ink displays are usually around twice the price of a regular black and white one. Obviously Amazon isn’t going to eat the cost on behalf of its customers.

This means that customers might have to pay a lot more for this new device. We’re not sure who this color Kindle will appeal to. Like we said, most people are fine reading their books in black and white, but maybe Amazon is hoping to make its Kindle devices more attractive, maybe for kids who enjoy picture books. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll have to wait and see if this rumor pans out.
