The Honor Magic 6 Pro makes its global debut

Smartphone hardware has kind of peaked. There’s really only so much faster and more efficient our phones can get. This is why for 2024, we expect that the majority of smartphones launching will focus on AI features. This is exactly what Honor has done with its latest smartphone, the Honor Magic 6 Pro.

The handset debuted earlier this year but its initial launch was limited to China. Ahead of MWC 2024, the company has announced that the Magic 6 Pro will now debut globally. In case you missed the earlier announcement, the handset will be packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

It will be accompanied by 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, a 6.8-inch 120Hz OLED display that can hit peak brightness of 5,000 nits. It also packs a 5,600mAh battery and a triple camera setup. This consists of a 50MP main, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 180MP periscope telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom.

In terms of AI features, it includes an eye-tracking function that will eventually make its way onto the phone. The company had previously demonstrated how the tech can control a car, but more realistic applications include interacting with notifications and opening apps just by looking at it.

There is another AI feature called “Magic Portal” which detects when events or addresses are mentioned in messages. This will then automatically launch the appropriate app, like an email app, calendar app, or navigation app. Honor says that they are also working on another AI tool that can generate videos based on text prompts.

It will be interesting to see how the Honor Magic 6 Pro will fare against other AI-powered phones like the Galaxy S24 series. The handset will be priced starting at €1,299 and is expected to start shipping 18th March.
