Samsung’s newest foldables are almost here, and it’s only a matter of time before we lay our eyes on the new Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5. With that in mind, both devices will undoubtedly come with some cool hardware and software upgrades – in the case of the Z Flip5, Samsung’s smaller foldable is sure to come with a ton of new features, but what exactly can we look forward to with the Z Flip5? Let’s take a look!
While the Z Flip4’s external display is a nice feature to have, it’s rather small, and its 1.9-inch size can only display a handful of information, which limits users to basic notifications. With the Z Flip5 however, it’s expected that Samsung will increase the external display to 3.4 inches, which should provide users with more info beyond app notifications.
This increase in screen size was recently confirmed by leaked marketing materials, which show the device’s larger cover screen in action and puts it closer to the cover displays that we’ve seen on foldable devices from Motorola and Oppo.
Admittedly, one of the biggest obstacles facing foldable smartphones is hardware durability – due to an increased number of moving parts, there’s a lot more room for unwanted damage due to wear and tear, and stuff getting in between the hinges. With the Z Flip5 however, it’s reported that Samsung will be improving device durability.
More specifically, the Z Flip5 will feature a 30% increase in Flex Mode, a 45% improvement in design, and 50% increase in overall durability, at least according to a claim from tech tipster Ahmed Qwaider. This hopefully leads to better flexibility with the device, and less chances of the hinge breaking over time.
If you’re reading this in North America, then chances are that you’re surrounded by a ton of insane deals from retailers and carriers, especially when it comes to brand new Samsung phones. The Galaxy Z Flip5 is no exception to this, and Samsung is actually running a promo right now for interested buyers who’d like to nab the new foldable at a lower price.

Another reason to grab the Z Flip5 would its processing power – it’s pretty much expected that the phone will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, one of the most well-received mobile SoCs in recent years. It offers a ton of upgrades over the 8+ Gen 1, and powers other Samsung devices like the Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra. It’s also notable thanks to better power efficiency, as well as faster performance.
This chip will work in tandem with 256GB of internal storage, and up to 8GB of RAM. It’s also reported that the phone will pack a 3,700 mAh battery which is a bit small to be honest, but we’re hopeful that the 8 Gen 2’s power management capabilities will put fears of battery drain to rest.
There’s a bit of debate on this one, but so far it’s expected that Samsung might work towards minimizing the gap on the Galaxy Z Fold5, which would ideally lead to a cleaner design, and minimize the chances of getting dirt or debris trapped between the display panels. While early dummy units show that the phone might come with a rather obvious gap in the middle, there’s always a chance that this issue lies solely with the dummy model, and not the actual factory-made unit.
