Samsung wants to bring the Exynos chipset back to its flagships

For the Samsung Galaxy S23 series this year, Samsung skipped the use of its Exynos chipsets entirely. The company usually launches its flagships with Exynos and Qualcomm chipsets, depending on the market the phone is launched in, but this year was an exception.

It was widely believed that this could be the end of the use of Exynos chipsets in the company’s flagship phones, but a recent rumor suggested otherwise. It turns out the rumors were true because it has since been confirmed by Samsung themselves where according to the company (machine translation):

“The MX division is a major customer and aims to develop business with a product lineup that can be applied to all segments of the Galaxy series. We are also working on re-entry.”

For those who are living in markets where they get the Qualcomm variant of the phone, it probably doesn’t make much of a difference, but for those who used to get the Exynos variant, it is a bit disappointing. This is because the performance of the Exynos chipsets have been kind of behind that of Qualcomm, which means that some customers are paying the same price but getting a different experience (at least on paper).

There have been rumors that Samsung could be developing a brand new lineup of chipsets that would be exclusive to their flagship phones, similar to how Apple’s A-series of chipsets are only used in the company’s iPhones and (some) iPads. In any case, hopefully the next-gen Exynos chipsets won’t disappoint, but we’ll have to wait until next year to find out.
