MWC 2023 Preview: this will be a BIG one!

It’s MWC season once again – Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress is back, and with the event in full-swing again, we’re bound to see tons of new and exciting tech all around, from smart devices to more unconventional but nevertheless interesting products. It’s one of the biggest tech showcases of the year, and as you can probably tell we’re excited to see what’s in stock.

In particular, a lot of folks will undoubtedly be looking forward to this year’s upcoming smartphone releases from several companies who will be present at the event, each with their own unique hardware and software features. Let’s take a look at what we can expect!

Xiaomi 13 Series

Xiaomi’s flagship-series phones are among the most popular Android phones worldwide, and it’s no surprise that a lot of people are looking forward to seeing the global launch of this year’s Xiaomi 13 handsets.

The company has been teasing the device’s unveiling at MWC, and there’s certainly a lot to be excited about – in addition to new and powerful hardware, the flagship will also feature a camera system which has been co-developed with camera brand Leica.

OnePlus 11 (Concept Phone)

Not one to shy away from concept devices, OnePlus has teased an upcoming concept variant of the now-available OnePlus 11, which will feature a different approach to design from the more “standard” OnePlus 11.

Previously, the company also toyed with the idea of a McLaren-themed OnePlus handset, although sadly that one remained confined to OnePlus’ design labs. Will things be different this time though? Let’s see.

Honor Magic Series

Honor has been teasing its upcoming Magic series phones for MWC, which will feature some of the best hardware that the Chinese brand will be offering to date. Formerly a Huawei sub-brand, Honor has been pumping out some impressive devices, and this one has us rather excited as well.

The company has also been banking a lot on what its cameras will be able to deliver, which we’ll finally get to see during the conference. Whether or not this makes a dent in a landscape dominated by Samsung, Apple and Google remains to be seen, but it’s rather exciting nonetheless.

Motorola Edge 40 Pro

While Motorola has already unveiled its rugged satellite-messaging smartphone (which it developed alongside Bullitt), the company has another handset which is very likely to be launched during MWC.

More specifically, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro is expected to make its debut during the event, which will come with some pretty impressive specs including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, and a 4600 mAh battery.

Realme GT3

Another former sub-brand, Realme has branched out into a more recognizable name worldwide, thanks to a steady release of bang-for-your-buck smartphones. With that said, the company’s Realme GT3 is expected to make an appearance at MWC, alongside competing brands from its home country.

One interesting feature that the GT3 comes with however is its built-in 240W fast-charging support, which can fully charge the phone in around ten minutes. Expect to see this cool feature demonstrated once Realme’s MWC event goes live.

Honorable Mentions

We’re also bound to see a lot of satellite-communication technology at MWC 2023 – Samsung, MediaTek, and Qualcomm have all announced that they’re working on hardware that will enable two-way communication for smartphones by using satellite communications, in areas with zero cellular network coverage.

AI has likewise been big these past few years, so expect some out-of-this-world announcements at the event. With Microsoft’s push to integrate Chat GPT into its software services, Google’s announcement of its Bard AI, as well as Qualcomm’s Stable Diffusion software, it should be unsurprising to see AI make a big presence at the event.
