MediaTek’s Dimensity 7200 Takes Performance to a New Level

0

MediaTek’s market push with its Dimensity series has resulted in some impressive performance across various handsets from different smartphone brands. The company today announced its newest addition to the Dimensity 7000 series, the Dimensity 7200. The new mobile chipset comes with several features including AI imaging software, gaming optimization, as well as power efficiency.

The Dimensity 7200 is manufactured with a TSMC 4nm second-generation process similar to the Dimensity 9200, and features two Arm Cortex-A715 cores with operating speeds of up to 2.8GHz, alongside six Cortex-A510 cores, as well as MediaTek’s built-in AI Processing Unit (APU) for AI tasks and AI-fusion processing. According to CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit:

“The MediaTek Dimensity 7000 series will be vital for mobile gamers and photography enthusiasts who are looking for an affordable way to squeeze the most battery life out of their phones without skimping on performance.”

MediaTek says that the chip’s HyperEngine 5.0 technology is designed for gamers, with AI-based Variable Rate Shading (VRS) for power savings, CPU and GPU smart resource for better power efficiency and gaming performance. The chipset also comes with an Arm Mali G610 GPU that will supposedly be able to sustain high frame rates.

The Dimensity 7200 also comes with MediaTek’s Imagiq 765 and a 14-bit HDR-ISP, and supports 200MP main cameras for photo and video capture. This means that the chipset can also support 4K HDR video, and even allows users to simultaneously capture content from two cameras at Full HD resolution while keeping everything in focus with all-pixel autofocus technology.

For wireless connectivity, the chipset features a 3GPP Release-16 standard Sub-6GHz 5G modem with up to 4.7Gbps downlink, and supports triband Wi-Fi 6E connectivity and next-gen Bluetooth 5.3. There’s also a fully integrated 5G modem and MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave 2.0 technology suite onboard for cellular power efficiency.

Additional features of the Dimensity 7200 include:

  • MediaTek MiraVision Display with HDR supports the latest standards including HDR10+, CUVA HDR and Dolby HDR.
  • Up to 6400Mbps memory frequency and UFS 3.1
  • Up to Full HD+ and 144Hz
  • AI SDR-to-HDR video playback
  • Bluetooth LE Audio technology and Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio

In terms of availability, we can expect the Dimensity 7200 to be used in mobile devices launching in Q1 of 2023.
