Samsung Galaxy owners need to update the Galaxy Store app NOW

0

While Samsung phones run on Android and provide users with access to the Google Play Store, Samsung has their own app store in the form of the Galaxy Store. Now, if you’re someone who uses both the Play Store and Galaxy Store, you might want to update the Galaxy Store right now.

This is because according to a report from the NCC Group, a cybersecurity firm, they have discovered that there are vulnerabilities in the Galaxy Store that would allow a hacker to install any app from the store on the user’s phone without their knowledge.

While the attacker can’t install apps outside of the Galaxy Store, the vulnerability could also potentially allow the attacker to access your personal data and cause apps to crash. In the worst case scenario, they could also upload a malicious app to the store and install it on your phone, although that might be a bit tricky since it would need to pass Samsung’s review first, but it’s not entirely out of the question.

In any case, the good news is that there is a patch for this vulnerability so all users need to do is make sure they update the Galaxy Store with the latest update and they should be good to go. The update was released on the 1st of January so you should have updated already, but it’s not a bad idea to double check just to be on the safe side.
