Forget social media, Instagram’s about to become an NFT marketplace

0

Earlier this year, Meta announced that Instagram would start supporting NFTs where users could show off the NFTs that they own. If you thought that things would stop there, it’s actually the opposite because Meta is doubling down on their support for NFTs in their latest announcement.

According to the Meta announcement, in an update to Instagram, creators will actually be able to create and sell their NFTs directly to their fans, essentially turning Instagram into an NFT marketplace of sorts.

“Creators will soon be able to make their own digital collectibles on Instagram and sell them to fans, both on and off Instagram. They’ll have an end-to-end toolkit — from creation (starting on the Polygon blockchain) and showcasing, to selling. People can easily support their favorite creators by buying their digital collectibles directly within Instagram.”

In addition to this, Meta has also announced that they will be adding support for digital video collectibles and expanding support for more blockchains and wallets, including the Solana blockchain and the Phantom wallet.

We’re not sure how users will react to these changes, but if you weren’t a fan of NFTs before, this update could result in you seeing more of it on your feed.
