It’s always interesting to see companies take new approaches to pre-existing smartphone hardware concepts and put their own spin on things. With that said, OSOM Products, Inc. and Solana Labs have announced the completion of their Series A funding for a new and upcoming smartphone, currently known as the “Solana Saga” Smartphone.

OSOM, which is short for “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” is an Android smartphone company founded in early 2020 by Essential Products alums, which focuses on giving users privacy-driven services and features. The Solana Saga was announced earlier this year, and is expected to launch in early 2023 as one of the very first web3-integrated phones.

OSOM founder Jason Keats states:

“We couldn’t be happier with our partnership with Solana Mobile. Their substantial investment in OSOM will allow us to greatly increase hiring, and accelerate our plans for the future.”

A‍s per CEO Solana Co-Founder Anatoly Yakovenko:

“As a thought leader in web3 and blockchain technology, we strive to bring our developers and customers the absolute best, and that also applies to our partnerships and investments. Jason and the team at OSOM are awesome at what they do, and solidifying our partnership with this investment will help ensure the Solana Saga offers the finest experience for Solana’s developers and users.”

‍In terms of hardware, the phone will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, along with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The phone will also come with additional features like the Solana Mobile Stack Seed Vault, which allows support for high-security web3 applications, and Solana-powered apps developed using the Solana Mobile Stack SDK, as well as other NFT and DeFi use cases.

‍OSOM is now targeting to improve product development by expanding staff with a focus on software engineering roles. With that said, ‍OSOM’s Gary Anderson adds that the team is excited with the Solana partnership. Following the Series A investment, he stated that “it’s time for us to grow our ranks, hiring for new SWEs including driver, system architecture, and firmware developers.”

Pre-orders for the Saga are currently open at the Solana storefront.
