WhatsApp will soon let you undelete messages

0

Like most messenger apps, WhatsApp allows users to delete their messages. Whether they want to delete a message on their end or unsend a message, users have that option. But what if in your haste you accidentally delete a message you didn’t intend on deleting?

In the past, you’d be out of luck, but in the future, that might be a different story. A report from WABetaInfo has discovered some evidence to suggest that in the future, WhatsApp could allow users to undelete a message.

As you can see in the screenshot above, whenever you delete a message, a small popup will show up at the bottom of the app with an “UNDO” button. Presumably tapping on it will restore the message. This is similar to how Gmail has an “Undo” button when you send an email or delete it.

We’re not sure how long users have to undo a deleted message, but it’s good that there will be an option in the future. Right now, the company is testing out the feature with a bunch of Android users (we’re not sure how they are selected), so if you don’t see it available in your WhatsApp app, don’t worry about it.

Hopefully the public testing is an indication that a public release isn’t too far off, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for its availability.
