Google’s Pixel 6 fingerprint calibration tool isn’t working for some users

Fingerprint scanners on phones have been around for many years now, and as such it’s kind of weird that the Google Pixel 6 is having so many issues with it. Unfortunately, it looks like those issues have yet to be resolved as users are now reporting that they are experiencing instances where the fingerprint scanner calibration tool isn’t working for them.

For those unfamiliar, Google released a fingerprint calibration tool that is meant to help users calibrate the fingerprint scanner whenever the display of their device has been replaced. This is supposed to help with users who are trying to repair their devices themselves or have taken it in to third-party repair shops.

Unfortunately, users are claiming that the calibration tool is failing for many users who are trying to recalibrate the sensor, ultimately leaving users without the ability to use their fingerprints on the phone. Whenever users try to run the calibration tool, they are instead greeted by an error message saying, “Couldn’t find the unique calibration software for this device.”

It is unclear how many devices or users are affected by this, but it’s not a good look for Google, especially in this age where the right to repair movement is gaining a lot of traction, which could give users the impression that the company is hindering efforts at trying to prevent users from repairing their devices themselves. Hopefully Google will have a fix for the issue soon.
