The concept of foldable phones is gold. A phone that can transform into a tablet, or a phone that can become an even smaller phone when not in use? It sounds perfect, but the technology was expensive which kind of kept people away from adopting it. But it seems that over the years, people are starting to justify those prices.
In fact, over in Samsung’s home country of South Korea, things are looking rather rosy. According to local media reports, it seems that pre-orders for both the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 are seeing a combined pre-order of around 450,000 units. Sure, this might pale in comparison to Samsung’s Galaxy S or Note series that would easily move millions, but as far as foldables go, this is downright impressive.
Analysts are now predicting that the total number of pre-orders could eventually reach 600,000, and these are just the figures for phones sold through carriers. It is estimated that combining that with unlocked units, we could easily be looking at a total of 800,000 units just in South Korea alone!
To give you some context, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 only saw about 80,000 pre-order units last year, so it is clear that more people are willing to give foldables a chance, but what say you? Are you more convinced that foldables are here to stay, and will you be getting one for yourself?
