Fossil ‘Gen 6’ teaser tries to steal the spotlight from Samsung ahead of Unpacked

0

We’re two days away from Samsung likely unveiling its next iteration of smartwatches, and Fossil is here trying to upstage them a bit. A marketing email has been making its rounds with Fossil customers stating the following:

Fossil’s newest, most advanced smartwatch is coming soon. Sign up to be the first to purchase.

Other than that, the email simply has a promo image with the phrase “Way More, Way Faster” spanning the length of the image. There’s no indication as to what the supposed Gen 6 smartwatch will look like. What we do know is that Fossil is planning on sticking with Qualcomm, which potentially means we’re in store for another Snapdragon Wear 4100 smartwatch.

Presumably, the Fossil Gen 6 would be feature the new and improved Wear OS 3, which was announced back at Google I/O 2021. Until now, we still don’t have a good idea as to what the interface will actually look like, as none of the current crop of smartwatches have received even a developer preview.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic will be running a modified version of Wear OS 3, dubbed One UI Watch. And although Samsung gave us a teaser back at MWC, we’re still a bit in the dark as to what to expect.

Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see other smartwatch makers begin at least teasing upcoming offerings. We’re hoping that whatever new Snapdragon Wear chipset Qualcomm is working on is robust enough to handle the new Wear OS 3, while being cost-effective for more manufacturer’s to integrate it.

Outside of Samsung and TicWatch, Fossil is the next company in line when it comes to offering the best smartwatch experience. We’ll have to wait and see what Fossil has planned for this supposed Gen 6 smartwatch, but now’s the time to start getting excited.
