Galaxy Z Fold 3 production rumored to be underway, with a disappointing change

0

From leaks to rumors, and everything in between, we’ve been learning quite a bit about Samsung’s upcoming foldable flagship in the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It’s even gotten to the point where the device was shown off in a supposed promotional video sporting S Pen support along with giving us a glimpse at the Z Flip 3.

According to WinFuture, Samsung has finally started mass production of the Z Fold 3. This lines up with rumors suggesting an unveiling in August with devices starting to ship in either late August or early September. Reportedly, Samsung has its sights set on higher numbers compared to last year’s Z Fold 2, but that may be a tough target to hit.

While improvements are expected to be revealed to the main folding display, likely using Samsung’s new Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG), the cover display is said to be reduced in size. This will likely be to accommodate the S Pen, which is said to be included with the phone, along with sporting a built-in slot similar to that of the Galaxy Note lineup.

Specs point to a 6.2-inch cover display that sees an uptick in refresh rate, being bumped up to 120Hz from the current 60Hz panel we have on the Z Fold 2. The inner display will come in at 7.5-inches while using Samsung’s Super AMOLED technology and sporting a QHD+ resolution with the same 120Hz refresh rate. The Z Fold 3 could free up some space on the inner display as we’re also expecting to see the company’s first under-display selfie camera.

It will be interesting to see how Samsung’s gamble of forgoing a Galaxy Note in 2021 pays off. If the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is really slated to be the replacement for the future, Samsung will have to make some drastic changes to the pricing of the device. If the Z Fold 3 can come in around $1500-$1700, it could help push the foldable market into the mainstream for good.
